Archaeology (the study of ancient human culture) and ethnology (the study of recent and living people) are the two major sections in the anthropology collection.

The archaeological collection comes from North and West Africa, the Middle East, Western Europe, the Andes, Mesoamerica, the Great Plains, and the Great Basin areas.

The ethnographic collection includes artifacts from the Andes, Amazon, Mesoamerica, Circum-Caribbean, East and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, West Africa, Melanesia, and Polynesia.

Bunda society drum. The head is made out of animal skin and the exterior is decorated with braided rope vertically tied around the circumference of the drum. There is thinner braided rope around the center of the drum.

Red polychrome mask with cut out eye holes. The entirety of the face is painted red, with black paint for eyebrows and the detail of the lips. There is center part down the center of the top of the head, on a white background with black dotted detail. Around the edge of the mask are multiple box nails to hold raffia headdress.

Orange-colored mask. Elaborate hair style, painted black, with red facial markings or tattoos. There is a hole through the top and bottom, for costume attachment.
