1978.16.31 (Crossbow)

Hardwood crossbow from the Montagnard (now Dong Bao) people in the highlands of South Vietnam. The structure is simple, with two long carved pieces of wood intersecting to create the bow and a thick, woven fibrous string attached to the cross arm. Exact wood used is unknown but is reddish in colour, bow string is made from bamboo. The cross arm for this particular crossbow has very little curve, it is almost completely perpendicular to the stock. The trigger mechanism for shooting the weapon is missing and the bow arm is loosely attached to the stock via wire, slight unravelling is also occurring in the center of the bow string.
