2019-FIC-3 (Mask)

This is a carved wooden mask possibly from Mexico City. The mask is an unknown animal. The animal has a wide nose with horizontal lines. Two bulging eyes are present under two eyeholes for the mask wearer. There are some drawing utensil marks on the eyeballs to show the dimensions of the eye. The mask has two long carved upturned ears, and between them in the center of the forehead are vertical lines and some carving work. The mouth of the mask is holdin a carved person. This person is smiling and has many carved face lines. The animal has carved teeth all around the person. There is either crudely carved hands or carved fish tails that are exiting the mouth from either side. The mask has many carving and writing utensil marks.
