This is a mask from the Guro people of the Ivory Coast. Starting with the forehead, carved triangle patterns are in four rows horizontally across. In the center of the fourth row there is a vertical wooden knob with a hole. A piece of blue string is laced and tied to it. The face of the mask has two downturned eyelids and eye slits underneath. Two carved ears and a small open mouth is also present. The nose is normal but has tin plating nailed into it. Tin plating is nailed into much of the masks face. Around the rim of the mask on the backside is a light colored fabric that drapes over the head of the person wearing the mask. It is fastened by string in holes that line the rim.
