Hat is completely covered with lavender sequins which form a 10-petalled flower on crown and diamond panels at sides, in concentric rows. Diamond panels lined with black felt and stiffened with grosgrain covered wire to aid hat in gripping onto head. Black grosgrain ribbon band encircles inside. Medium weight black net veil in front between diamond medallions.

Band rests on medium-weight stiff chartreuse veil which forms a cap and extends over the face. Veil is 5 1/2" wide beneath the band in front, tapering to nothing at center back. Two chartreuse velvet cutouts of bows are glued beneath band at right front.

The outer front cover bears an illustrated outdoor scene in the upper left corner, and is entitled, "Closing Program of the Alpha, Shakesperian, and Philomathean Literary Societies, of ISNS. At Normal chapel, Monday December 14th, 1885, 7:30 P. M." The borders of the cover are decorated with a lined and laced design. The body of the program lists that evening's activities, such as musical recitals, essays, and debate competitions. Although stained and soild from age, the program is of a very good condition.
