"Mrs. Hutchison" is written on the bottom right corner of the front cove and "Ethel R, Mrs. Knisely 223 S. 14th Street" written in the top right corner of the first page. A list of students involved with the Red Cross and their charges are listed on the last page. The class roster lists thirty-one students. Softback, brown covers, bound with thread. 3 of 3. Aletha Hutchison Jacobs, born in Buchannan County, Iowa, was a teacher for rural schools in Benton County (1900-1902), Buchanan County (1902-1907), Black Hawk County (1912-1916), Grundy County (1916-1920), Wright County (1920-1921), and Webster County (1922). In 1922 she moved to Pennsylvania with her husband, Elmer. There she taught at Hummelstown High School in Dauphin County (1922-1924) and Reamstown School in East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County (1926-1960).

532 1986.4.456 Book, Grade Continental Class Record book. No author cited. 76 pp. Used as a grade recorder for teachers. The inside has the name of the teacher "Mrs. Hutchison" written in pencil with the year "1959-60". There are pages labeled "Memorandum". Pages have 45 lines to write the student's name and 35 boxes to record grades for each student. There are also boxes for daily average, tests, six week grades & semester grades. The top of the pages have subject, period ending & mark distribution, all written in brown. The boxes to record grades are divided into a box containing 5 boxes for each row and have the letters MT W T F" across the top. The teacher used only the first 4 pages of the book. Across the top in blue ink is "Sept. 8 to Oct. 20 1959." "First 6 weeks". Below this are various subject headings "Spelling, Geog., Reading, Health, Science, Arith. Music & Drawing" also written in blue ink. On the second page written in pencil are the same subjects but "2nd 6 weeks" at the top "Oct. 20 to Dec. 4". There are 36 names listed and grades listed for 30 of them. The second page is folded back to reveal grades on page 4. The cover is a dark brown and plain except for the drawing of the U. S. in the center and the words "Continental Class Record" inside the U. S. The box is held together by a wire spiral binding.

572 1986.4.566 Letter 3-page letter from Hazel to Jackie about attending summer school at the Iowa State Teachers College, 26 June 1923. Addressed from Ley Hall 810 W. 25th Street, Cedar Falls, IA. The letter details what life in summer school is like, including living with four girls in one room (out of the 39 girls in Ley Hall). She was enrolled in sociology, economics, primary drawing, and rural school problems, explaining sociology and rural school problem was required to apply for her certificate. Her teacher for rural school problems was Mr. Hamer, the superintendent of the Orange Consolidated school.

576 1986.4.584 Letter Letter from Margaret C. Meyers to Miss Aletha Jacobs, Superintendent of Black Hawk County Schools, from Waterloo, Iowa July 10, 1915. In the letter Margaret thanks Miss Jacobs for concerns about her health, discusses some events in the Black Hawk County education system and advises Miss Jacobs to take a position in Grundy County as it will provide better pay, and notes that she already recommended Aletha to the Grundy County Superintendent.
