Fan, hand carved; sandalwood with ivory end pieces. 30 sandalwood strips plus the ivory end pieces united by a narrow silk ribbon 1 3/8" from the top and a metal bar with loop 13/16" from bottom. Ivory double silk cord with intersting knot of 4 loops. Two fringed ends, each 3 1/2". Total drop from metal loop is about 5 1/2". b. Box lid, pasteboard with glass lid striped silver, red and blue foil sides and narrow edge at top, and narrow gold strip around glass. c. Box bottom, pasteboard.
3 1974.33.4 Fan Painted design, 2 1/4", on silk fan edge. Carved design in sandalwood. Yellow tassel on end. Folds down to 8 1/4' long.
4 1977.41.2 Fan Decorative, paper, carved ivory. Brightly colored. Both sides depict Chinese dwellings and gardens, with many figures clad in native costumes. The heads of the figures are made from bone or ivory chips, with faces neatly painted on. Bordered by flowers and gold edging. The support arms are heavily carved with figures and designs. Color: ML
