A tree is to the left of what appears to be a house. Pages of the album are of a thin gray-brown cardboard material.

9 1996.17.1 Diary Black leather diary with tuck-in flap leather clasp. The piece of leather in which the flap tucks under is located on the front cover, and measures 2" lengthy by 3/8" width. The flap is connected to the back cover. The inside of the front cover is pink and gives the name and address of the owner: Leonard E. Crosby. The diary gives the projected moon phases for 1865. It also has sections for recording Thoughts, Memoranda, Cash Accounts, and Bill Accounts of his time in the Federal army and following civilian life. Color: BK,CR,WH,PK

16 UNIM1987.28 Book ''Iowa Normal Monthly''. Historical souvenir, 1830-1889. ISNS, by George W. Jones. 516 pp. Illus in b/w. Contains history on the beginnings of education in Iowa. The book also contains biographies of important Iowans like Homer Seerley, Nannie Torrace, Wilson Lewis, etc. Contains maps of Iowa showing high schools and their locations during 1865 and 1888. The outside cover is an orange-red color. There are two horizontal lines, one at the top and one at the bottom of the page. In between the lines, the title is printed in black. The inside front cover has a small rctangular sticker in the top left corner, reading "Library of Melvin F. Arey." There is a quote on the sticker that says "And please return it. You may think this is a stange request, but I find that, although many of my friends are poor arithmeticians, they are nearly all of them good bookkeepers." Color: BK,RD
