6 1988.33.25 Book "Elson Grammar School Reader Book Four, Eighth Grade," by William Elson & Christine Keck.420 pp. including index. No illustrations. Contains various stories & poetry seen as classics by the authors. There is also a section on patriotic stories. There are 3 sections in the book. The first has stories about Paul Revere, the Eve Before Waterloo, Hamlet, Mercy, & The Seven Ages of Man. Section 2 has Rip Van Winkle, the Raven, the Chambered Nautilus and The Great Stone Face. Part 3 has Columbus, Spartacus to the Gladiators, England & Her Colonies, & O Captain, My Captain. The outside cover is brown and has black lines drawin to look like a squarish geometric shape. Inside the drawing is the title. Under this is a drawing of flowers and leaves. At the bottom "Eighth Grade". The spine has wrtten on it also in black "Elson Grammar School "Reader book IV." AT the bottom "Scott Foresman Company." The inside title page has written in black ink "To Anna fFom in recognition of good school work from the county superintendent." Color: BR,BK

There is also letter writing, how to use commas, abbreviations, etc. The cover of the book is brown and has a pair of black lines going around it. At the top is a rectangle that has three kittens in it. Under that written in black is the title, in black, followed by the author's name and written at the top in pencil "Miss Flom." The back cover has a book lying open with a feathered wing on either side. In the middle of the book is a torch that is lit and has rays shining out from it. Color: BR,BK

28 2015-4-4 Book The Wide Awake Second Reader by Clara Murray. The cover is brown with a green and white flora border; cover is fading. A sticker was in the top right corner, but only partially remains. "Property of Orchard Consolidated Schools No.___" is stamped on the interior front cover. Some pages are torn. Book is 191 pages inclueding the index. Binding is beginning to seperate. 
29 2016-16-33 Book The Expressive Readers: Seventh Reader by James Baldwin and Ida C. Bender. Cover is yellow with black text and borders. There is an image of three children (two boys and one girl) reading. Edges and corners are slightly frayed. Binding is strong and pages are attached. The first page says, "Dorthy E. Perrin Parkersburg, Iowa Age 12 years. There are a few markings throughout the pages. Book contains mainly black and white images. Pages are in good condition. Book is 268 pages. 
30 2016-FIC-186 Book McGuffey's New Fourth Eclectic Reader by Wm. H. McGuffey. Cover is brown with black leather binding. The cover is exremely faded and scratched. The binding has experienced severe damage and the pages are barely attached. Edges and corners are extremely faded. Pages are damaged and worn. Book is approximately 216 pages.

Cover is blue with a picture of a young boy conducting; he is wearing stripped overalls. The last page has the name "Kay Erusha" written in blue and red. Cover is fading to a green color. Book is 172 pages. 
32 2016-FIC-39 Book The Blodgett Readers by Grades:  Book One by Frances E. Blodgett and Andrew B. Blodgett. The cover is red with black text and an elegant border. "Flow Christensan" is written twice on the interior cover. A sticker is on the bottom left corner that says "Set of 6 to 1 Readers $25.00." 33 2016-FIC-42 Book The Eclectic Third Reader containing Selections in Prose and Poetry from the Best American and English Writers by William H. M'Guffey. Cover is green with red binding. A picture of Napoleon crossing the Alpes is in the center and the title and publication information is listed above and below. "A. R. Galloway Monroe, N.Y. 1848" is written on th interior cover; "Property of Regents' Center for Early Developmental Education University of Northern Iowa" is stamped below. "Weiser" is written in blue ink in the top left corner. Some pages are loose and it looks like the book has experienced some water damage. 34 2016-FIC-44 Book The Boys' and Girls' Readers:  First Reader by Mabel Betsy Hill. Cover is green with a picture of a boy and girl sitting outside and reading; the sky is orange. The inside cover has a grid with pictures and names of each animal or person. "David" is written in blue crayon and some of the animals are coloreed in pink, orange, or gray. "Nancy" is written on the next page. Book is 120 pages. 
35 2016-FIC-45 Book The Howe Readers:  A Fifth Reader by Will D. Howe, Myron T. Pritchard, and Elizabeth V. Brown. Cover is red with black text and picture. Image is of a young girl and boy reading. "Margaret Bates" is written on the inside cover. Some pages appear to be missing from the front. Book is 374 pages including the notes. Back cover say "Indiana Edition Price 40 Cents."
36 2016-FIC-46 Book Sheldon's Fourth Reader is missing some pages. The author, publisher, and publication date are unknown. Cover is green with an indented elegant border. Text on the binding is gold. Notes and the name "John Tick" are scribbled on the interior cover. Half of the last page is missing and part of the back cover. The last whole page is 334. The first page has a photo of a young boy and girl with the caption "Tessa and Tommo. Page 90."

The interior cover has a circular drawing with "Dorthy Conn, Parkersburg, Iowa Sept. 3, 1917" written inside. The price is marked as 15 cents. The back cover has notes on shorthand.

Interior cover has a note along with an address and date listed as, "Harold K. Conn Parkersburg, IA, October11, 1916, age: 10 years." Back cover has " Harold Conn age 12 May 7/8 97" listed.

The interior cover has the following information written:  "Helen Rieken 8th Grade Parkersburg Iowa, Junior High," "Helen Arlene Rieben, Delores Kruse," "friendship, Look on page 96 for my name." Additional notes are written on the back cover. The cloth around the spine is tearing off.
