5 00.70.65a Sword French gras model; polished steel blade; walnut wood grips; hooked metal handguard; brass pommel; blade stamped, "M, French inscription, 1875"; guard stamped, "g - 1722, M"; pommel stamped, "24". Both sword and sheath are labeled "a". Note: Discovered a second identical sword on 4/13/2015. The sword and sheaths of both had been switched (I was able to ID this by the serial number stampings) I switched the blades back but also noticed that both blades had been given the 00.70.0065 number at different times. This needs to be researched and fixed (For now, this number will include two swords) Nathan Arndt 4/13/2015

Both sword and sheath are labeled "b".  Note: Discovered a second identical sword on 4/13/2015. 11 2024-4-1A Bayonet Object 2024-4-1 has 2 parts. A is the bayonet and B is the scabbard. A) Fusil Gras 1874 French bayonet. This one made April 1878 as noted on the back edge which says "Mre d'Armes de St Etienne Avril 1878". This indicates the arsenal, month, and year the bayonet was made. "M 2707" is imprinted on the hilt. This bayonet was a fit for the French Model 1874 "Gras" Infantry Rifle which was manufactured between 1874 and 1885. 12 2024-4-1B Scabbard Object 2024-4-1 has 2 parts. A is the bayonet and B is the scabbard. B) Scabbard for the Fusil Gras 1874 French bayonet. This was made April 1878 as noted on the back edge of the bayonet itself which says "Mre d'Armes de St Etienne Avril 1878". This indicates the arsenal, month, and year the bayonet was made. This bayonet and scabbard were a fit for the French Model 1874 "Gras" Infantry Rifle which was manufactured between 1874 and 1885. Numbers on the scabbard say "58012". This scabbard has a small dent on the side with those numbers, and there is a nob on the finial. 2024-4-1B (Scabbard) image
