40 2024-1-22B Book Object 2024-1-22 has two parts. Part A is the cover for the booklet that is part B. B) Nazi certificate book for members of the Sturmabteilung or SA, more commonly known as the Brownshirts. They were one of Hitler's greatest support groups and were essential for helping Hitler rise to power. The organization was founded after the end of World War I and remained to the end of World War II. The organization valued physical fitness among their members as a means of improving the German race. This booklet was a badge book for people who completed SA trainings and leadership tests. All text is in German. The cover is a thick, stiff, brown, cardboard-type material. The front cover has a depiction of the SA Sports Badge logo with the text "Urkunde" below it, meaning 'certificate' in gold lettering. This booklet begins with two proclamations regarding this SA program that were given by Adolf Hitler in 1935 and 1937. A third proclamation from Adolf Hitler is dated January 19, 1939. A description of the regulations is given by Chief of Staff of the SA Viktor Lutze. Lutze was Chief of Staff from 1934-1943. The next page has space for the owner's identifying information, plus a photograph. Several of the lines have been heavily erased and the lines have been redrawn with a pencil. No text is visible. The following pages have various leadership and military badges with space to be stamped and certified when the owner of this booklet received these awards. The last few pages are for more specific awards and have many empty pages for a variety of possible awards. All of the pages are empty and there are no stamps in the book. The back cover of the booklet is a list of regulations for how these badges can be earned and how this booklet can be replaced if lost. All the pages have either a Nazi print watermark or the SA logo watermark. The pages are thick paper and the text is black and red. 2024-1-22B (Book) image

Each word is on a separate line with the colors red, white, and blue in blocks behind the words. This patch was worn on tan caps by the American War Dads organization that started during World War II and lasted through the Korean War. 48 2024-1-36 Cuff Title Waffen-SS cuff title saying "Michael Gaißmair". The symbol 'ß' is used in German to represent the letter 's' in certain vowel contexts. This is a black band of fabric with gray text and one gray line at the top and one at the bottom. The back side is the inverse of the colors on the front side. The ends are each sewn back so they are not frayed. This means this cuff title was never used by a soldier because they would cut them down to size for each soldiers individually. These cuffs were worn on the uniform of Waffen-SS soldiers part way up the forearm and below the elbow. Michael Gaismair was a leader in the German Peasants' War of 1524-5 and the Nazis presumably wanted to honor him by including it in their propaganda. The German Peasants' War was an uprising of the peasants against oppression but it did not achieve success. Further protests were discouraged by new restrictions given because of it. 2024-1-36 (Cuff Title) image
49 2024-1-37 Cuff Title Waffen-SS cuff title saying "Adolf Hitler". This is a black band of fabric with gray text in cursive and one gray line at the top and one at the bottom. The back side is the inverse of the colors on the front side. The ends are frayed and the length is about half the typical cuff title length. These cuffs were worn on the uniform of Waffen-SS soldiers part way up the forearm and below the elbow.
