14 1991.21 Balance Five parts. a. Balance arm. Each end is equipped with a hook for receiving the balance pan and weight pan. b. Balance support. Brass rod with a U-shaped bracket at top for holding the balance arm. Below the bracket there is a sheet of brass that serves as a safety stop. Immediately below the brass sheet is a brass sphere. c. Balance stand. Brass tube fitted with a screw collar at top to adjust the grip on the balance support rod. The base of the brass tube expands and is attached by a nut to a cast iron base. d. Balance pan. suspended from the balance arm by three chains. e. Weight pan. Suspended from the balance arm by three chains. When assembled, the weight pan rests approximately 6" below the balance arm. The bottom of the weight pan is equipped with a hook for receiving standard weights.
