1 1989.5.42 Scale Metal food scale with weigh table and front dial. The base is white with a slight flare at the bottom for stability; the stainless steel weigh table comes out of a hole in the center of the top of the base. The dial on the front is cream with black; around the outside there is a circle with dashes measuring up to 16 oz; in the center is a needle used to show the weight on the scale, needle is sharp on the indicator side and has a decorative half-moon shape on the opposite side; also on the dial face are two "Cost per LB" charts, above these are the instructions "In order to maintain a 40% food cost: Find your portion cost in the table below. Multiply this by 2 1/2 to establish the minimum menu price.", below this is the logo for Edward Don & Company.
2 UNIM1989.13.4 Container Large metal coffee pot with wood accents. The metal has blue and white speckled enamel on the entire surface of the outside with the exception of the handle, which is entirely blue; the inside has been painted with the same enamel but is entirely white. Weld lines can be found where the bottom is attached as well as in two lines running top to bottom where two separate sheets of metal were attached together to form the base; there is also a decorative ring around the base just above the middle. Just below the lid are two pieced of metal with holes where a wire handle attaches, this handle is made of a thick, grey wire and has a piece of wood at the center which was once varnished but nearly all of the varnish has worn away. Another, metal handle can be found welded on to one side of the base with the top just below the lid, it curves up then angles in to reattach below the decorative ring; opposite of this handle is a welded-on spout, the area of the base under the spout has several holes punched into it to function as a strainer. the lid is domed and is completely removable from the base, it has a small, wooden knob attached via a pin in the center. This object is made up of two parts, the base (4a) and the lid (4b).
3 UNIM1989.5.13 Tool Metal bowl with beater attachment. The bowl has a screw on one side near the top lip for the attachment to rest on, on the opposite side is a metal nub that keep the attachment in place. The attachment is attached to the bowl via a hole for the nub to go through and a notch that rests around the screw; at the top center of the beater is a long, curved handle with a wooden knob at the end that has been painted black; attached to this handle, on the opposite side of the metal piece that allows the attachment to span the bowl, are three gears, one large, two small; these gears are connected to the two metal pieces that function as the beaters, each has two long loops made from metal wires. "1; Universal cake-maker patented Jan. 14, 96. April 18, 05. July 18, 05. Nov. 7, 05.; Landers Frary & Clark; New Britain. Conn. U.S.A." is stamped on the top of the beater attachment. Object is made up of two parts, the bowl (13a) and the beater attachment (13b).
4 UNIM1989.5.43 Scale Metal balance scale with ceramic weigh plates. The base is black and made up of one large, center circle attached to two smaller circles on either side; "Property of Iowa State Teachers College; 9723" is written in tan text on one side of the central circle, on the other side is a silver metal screw with a pin through it for easy use. Attached to the base is the silver metal weighing mechanism which includes a ruler with a counterweight, the measures from zero to ten with ten small dashes between each number; directly between the two weigh plates is a needle and a a flat piece of metal with five dash marks used to determine the balance of the two plates. The two ceramic plates are white with the word "CENCO" stamped in the center surrounded by a circle; the plates are resting on metal platforms and attached via four prongs.
5 UNIM1989.5.5 Container Metal pressure cooker with pressure gauge and two valves. The silver-colored base has a rounded shape and stands on six wide, short legs; a metal ring is attached via a loop on one side; three copper-colored thumb screws are attached to raised metal areas around the top lip; there is a simple, metal wire handle. The lid is domed and attaches to the base via the three thumb screws attaching to three notches extending from the lip of the lid; in the center of the lid is two different copper valves and a basic pressure gauge that measures from 0-30; stamped into the top around the gauge and valves is "The Pressure Cooker Co Denver Colo.; Pat. Pending"; the number "17743" is etched into the edge of the lid. This object is made up of multiple parts; the base (5a), the lid (5b), and the thumb screws (5c-e).
6 UNIM1989.5.6 Container Metal pressure cooker with pressure gauge and two valves. Container is silver in color with a wire handle; lid attached via five thumb screws that flip up from the base and secure through notches in the lid; there is a wire grate on the bottom of the base that can be used to keep food at the bottom or separate it; the number "26190" and an arrow have been etched into the lip of the base. The lid is domed; in the center is a gauge that measures temperature and pressure, with the temperature measuring 216-274 on the outside and the pressure from 0-30 on the inside, "Sechrist Pressure Cooker; The Albert Sechrist Mfg. Co. Denver, Colo." is also printed on the face of the gauge; behind and on either side of the gauge are two pressure valves; the word "Patented" and the numbers "26190" are etched on the lip of the lid along with an arrow. This object is made up of multiple parts; the base (6a), the lid (6b), the grate (6c), and the thumbscrews (6d-h). Lid has dial gauge with 2 pressure valves on top.
