2 1996.29.2 Centrifuge, chemical Three parts, a- c. a. Metal housing painted black rests on two black metal feet. On the back of the housing there is a metal crank with a wooden handle (both painted black) that - when turned - spins the two metal test tubes. Extending from the top of the housing is a neck (approximately 12 cm long). Extending from the neck is a bronze apparatus that holds two test tubes and spins when the handle is turned. b, c. Two aluminum protecting shields - both 12 cm long- with a diameter of 2 cm. They both have a rim on the top. The side of the rim is etched like the edge of a quarter. Color: BK,SL,BZ
3 1996.29.3 Refractometer The black base is shaped like an elongated octagon. The base supports a mirror and the mirror's stand. There is also a peg that supports the prism apparatus when it is opened. There are two prisms hinged together below the observing scope. A red rubber tube connects the two prisms by attaching to knots located on each prism. The rubber tube is worn and cracked from age. The tube is nearly severed all of the way through where it is attached to the knobs. The scope is approx. 13 cm long and 3 cm in diameter. It is bronze and has a bronze dial at the bottom right that is marked in increments from 0-10. There is a Celsius thermometer protruding from one of the prisms. It is approx. 13.2 cm and is marked in 10 degree increments. Color: BK,BZ,RD
4 1996.29.5 Turbidimeter Three parts, a. - c. Heavy metal base which carries the candle support (b) and tube holder (a). a. Tube holder is a black cylinder with a 3.2 cm diameter opening. This tube holder sits on a circle base with a 12 cm diameter. B. The candle support is a black metal cylinder 16 cm tall and 2.4 cm in diameter. It holds a white wax candle. c.The base has three legs and is 27.5 cm tall. There is a round slot in the center of the three legs in which the candle support rests. At the top of the base, there is a larger round hole where the tube holder rests. Color: BK,GD
5 2002.7.279 Box Wooden spectacle box with sliding lid. Label on sliding lid, "The House of Progress". Prof. F. W. Cover, Janesville, Iowa. Label on the side of the box reads "After five days return to Riggs Optical Company, Waterloo, Iowa."
6 2017.19.12 Observoscope A plastic observoscope held together by metal screws. The object has the words "Observoscope, Millar Instruments co. INC., Newark, N.J." on one side of it. A sticker on the objects underside reads "Observoscope REG.US.OFF.Star Finder, 1945, I.A. Millar, Newark N.J." The Object sits in a cardboard box with a lable that reads "58070 Observoscope Scient. Instr., Central Scientific Company, Laboratory Supplies Apparatus Chemicals-New York, BOston, Chicago, Toronto, San Francisco". 7 2017.19.13A Sextant A metal sextant made by Lafayett Instruments INC. The sextant has a wooden handle, two relfecting mirrors and a bubble attachment. The sextant sits in a large wooden box with metal hook latches and a metal handle. A sticker that reads 'Yoder Instuments, East Plaestine, Ohio" is on the handle of the sextant and the top of the wooden box. A water mark on the side of the sextant reads "Sterling Die-Casting, Brooklyn, N.Y." 8 2017.19.13B Sextant Bubble Attachment A metal bubble attachment for a Yoder Instruments sextant.
