2 1983.6.1 Mask Ritual "Moor" mask, red face with black mustache, eyebrows and beard which curls up and out at the chin. Small mouth with 8 teeth. Almond shaped eyes with black centers and small black eyelashes. Two 'sight' holes beneath each prominent eyebrow. Small holes on both sides and top center. This is a character from the Dance of the Moors and Christians, representing Moor. 4 1983.6.9 Mask Red face ritual mask with very long nose. Eyebrows, mustache, underside of nose, cheeks and chin are gold with black highlights. Eyes are white with blue centers and black pupils with radiating lines. Black eyelashes highlight eyes. Mouth is small downward crescent. Cutout sight holes exist below prominent eyebrows on either side of nose. Small holes on both sides and top center. This is a character from the Dance of the Moors and Christians, representing Moor. 5 1993.43.4 Mask Lightweight mask; human head with skull and arms on forehead. Stylized hair coming around face to form a beard. Prominent eyebrows, cheekbones, nose and open mouth with teeth. Long eye slits above eyes. On the mask the left side the beard appears to be braided; the other side is not. Notches on upper lip may indicate a moustache. On skull the mouth is open with teeth as the main mask is on back of mask the cracks from the front are coming through to the back. Color very faded. Pastels all over mask; blotched all over. Black color on lips, eyebrow; on skulls forehead is black. Pink beard, and arms and lower 1/2 of skull; rest of mask is blotchy colors. 1993.43.4 (Mask) image
6 1997.4.6 Mask Green devil, carved from curved piece of wood about 1/2" thick. Prominent hooked nose and chin. Red-painted mouth has 10 animal teeth inserted. Prominent eyebrows and cheek bones. Below carved eyebrows are eye slits carved out of the wood. Below the slits are red-painted eyes with paper pasted on. The paper has ink eyeballs. Under-surface of eyelids is painted red. Some sort of bovine horns are attached at the side. Marked on the back "8 marzo 1954. Panacho Michoacan ISP." and "No. 53." This is a Diablo mask from a Pastorelas Play, which is a retelling of the Christmas nativity scene. 1997.4.6 (Mask) image
