4 1986.4.289 Letter Recommendation letter for Mrs. Aletha J. Hutchison from Blanche Bock, the county superintendent of Wright County, Iowa. The page is titled "County Superintendent's Statement as to Success and Professional Spirit." It states that she taught in grade schools in Dows, Iowa, for eighteen months from Sept. 1920 - June 1922. Signed at Clarion, Iowa, on October 13th, 1922. Form published by the Ferguson & Company, Mason City, Iowa. Aletha Hutchison Jacobs, born in Buchannan County, Iowa, was a teacher for rural schools in Benton County (1900-1902), Buchanan County (1902-1910), Black Hawk County (1912-1916), Grundy County (1916-1920), Wright County (1920-1921), and Webster County (1922). In 1922 she moved to Pennsylvania with her husband, Elmer. There she taught at Hummelstown High School in Dauphin County (1922-1924) and Reamstown School in East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County (1926-1960).

Published by Hinds, Hayden & Eldredge Inc. 11-15 Union Square, West New York City, Philidelphia, Chicago. The index lists several dozen subjects for which the publisher makes books for that schools can order. The back inside cover lists "Quick Counter Sellers" and the flip side lists the most popular music "folios," each with their prices. This was sent to Miss Aletha Jacobs of Dows, Iowa, from the publishers.
6 1986.4.298B Letter Letter from Hings, Hayden, and Eldredge, Inc. (a book publishing company in New York City) to Miss Aletha Jacobs of Dows, Iowa, dated Oct. 26, 1921. It reads, "Dear Madam: Your favor of the 24th at hand and we enclose our catalogue herewith covering our complete list. We still have some copies of "The Virtues and Their Reasons" and can supply it at $1.25 per copy, postage extra about 14c."  A red booklet titled "Educational Publications" was sent with this letter, documented under 1986.4.298A.

8 1986.4.332 Book 1920-1921 teacher's class record book for the 8th grade in the Dows school, Wright County, Iowa. The teacher was Aletha G. Jacobs. Titled, "Metropolitan Class Record No. 250," published by Metropolitan Supply Company, Anamosa, Iowa. Hardback, green cover, bound by three staples. The inside cover has written in pencil "Took Class exam in History 1st Semester" written in green below that "Tuition Pupils" Under this are 18 names of students written in green. To the right of this is written "no class exam'nd semester". This is also in black written at the top of the page in pencil is "Non-resident Students boys - girls - total, etc. Also includes a. handwritten notes on The Education Process, by Bagley, First Semester Program; b. Schedule of lessons during the day, c. Second Semester Program, d. Course of Study Grade 8 and general directions. 20 RSC-WR-1 Invitation An Invitation shaped like an Airplane for a Dows High School event, dated May 26, 1922. From the Aletha Jacobs Collection
21 RSC-WR-2 Booklet 1921 commencement invitation for the Dows Hugh School, Wright County, Iowa. It was held Friday, June 3rd, 1921, 8pm, at the Methodist church. The superintendent was Joseph Boman. The booklet lists the class roll (nineteen students), motto, flower, colors, and commencement calendar. The cover has 1921 embossed in gold and is bound by a grey leather chord.  A small insert says " Fern E. Capellen, one of the graduated. The matching envelope reads "former pupil."
