The application was from Black Hawk County and signed by A. M. Deyoe, the president of the Educational Board of Examiners in Des Moines, Iowa, July 1, 1913. The page has a thick, black, decorative boarder and an illustration of a soldier with a town behind him in the center. The back lists the specific counties, dates, and county superintendents for which Aletha taught: Black Hawk County, 8/23/1913 - 7/1/1916 under superintendents Margaret C. Myers and H. C. Moeller, Grundy County, 9/2/16-7/1/1918 under superintendent D. R. Earl, Butler County 9/4/1918-7/1/1918 under superintendent E. B. Rodgers, Grundy County, 9/10/1918-7/1/1920 under superintendent D. R. Earl, and Wright County, 9/21/1920-10/8/1921 under superintendent Blanche Bock. Aletha Hutchison Jacobs, born in Buchannan County, Iowa, was a teacher for rural schools in Benton County (1900-1902), Buchanan County (1902-1910), Black Hawk County (1912-1916), Grundy County (1916-1920), Wright County (1920-1921), and Webster County (1922). In 1922 she moved to Pennsylvania with her husband, Elmer. There she taught at Hummelstown High School in Dauphin County (1922-1924) and Reamstown School in East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County (1926-1960).
20	1986.4.290	Letter	"Superintendent's Statement as to Professional Study," written for Aletha Jacobs Hutchison of Black Hawk County by H. C. Moeller, the county superintendent. It states that Aletha taught in the county for four years and three months since March 1911. Signed in Waterloo, Iowa, on Oct. 18th, 1922. Aletha Hutchison Jacobs, born in Buchannan County, Iowa, was a teacher for rural schools in Benton County (1900-1902), Buchanan County (1902-1910), Black Hawk County (1912-1916), Grundy County (1916-1920), Wright County (1920-1921), and Webster County (1922). In 1922 she moved to Pennsylvania with her husband, Elmer. 25	1986.4.566	Letter	3-page letter from Hazel to Jackie about attending summer school at the Iowa State Teachers College, 26 June 1923. Addressed from Ley Hall 810 W. 25th Street, Cedar Falls, IA. The letter details what life in summer school is like, including living with four girls in one room (out of the 39 girls in Ley Hall). She was enrolled in sociology, economics, primary drawing, and rural school problems, explaining sociology and rural school problem was required to apply for her certificate. Her teacher for rural school problems was Mr. Hamer, the superintendent of the Orange Consolidated school.
