1970.47.5.16.1 (Bullet) image

American Civil War era lead musket ball. Completely spherical in shape and gray in color, the outside of the ball has a pitted texture. This type of bullet would have been used in smooth-bore caplock muskets, not rifles. Object is from Shreveport, Louisiana, potentially remnant from the Battle of Mansfield which was fought over control of the city of Shreveport which was, at the time, Louisiana's state capital.
