On one side of coin appears a shield with the letter "Y" on it. Two horses stand on hind legs on both the left and right of the shield. Above the shield, an eagle. Below the shield is a banner which reads "Unity and faith peace and progress". Lettering on this side, along outside, reads "Federal Republic of Nigeria" and "1991".
