1997.4.28.2 (Glove, boxing)

Made of three layers, fitted over the hand. Inner layer is simple woven fabric. Center layer is twisted shaped rawhide. Outer layer is stockinette-knitted wool. Used by reaching in hole at top and grasping twisted rawhide strip on inside at bottom. Heavy. Gloves usually contained a small stone and not much padding. Part of a ritual violence among 10 male members of the community.
