1998.28.9 (Comb)

Double-sided wooden African hair comb. The large comb has 11 teeth. At the top of the large comb there is a line etched in a zig zag pattern, followed by a small ridge, followed by another zig zag pattern. The handle of the comb is carved to resemble a human face. The cheekbones are hollowed out, with the nose in the middle and the teeth below the nose, and the eyes above the nose. At the center of the face the outer sides of the comb curve and create a 1/2 circle. Above the eyes the alternating pattern of zig zag, ridge, and zig zag is repeted. The small comb has 14 teeth.
