1 2017-26-13 Chair The pleasingly carved, three-legged wooden Nyamwezi chair depicts a male figure rising from the back of the stool and ending with the headas athe topmost element in the design. Reserved for the chief only, the high back 'stool' in human shape features a bust portrait with carved head and neck that has been adorned with beaded necklace. Carved from a single piece of hard wood, the bust portion of the chair comprises the seat back. A circular hole in the center of the rounded seat and the three curvilinear legs of the stool, with raised decoration of vertical linear pattern carvings, rests on a convex base. 2017-26-13 (Chair) image
