1 2024-1-1 Brochure USO brochure entitled "your USO" on the front. The term "USO" is depicted on a sign nailed into a door. Inside the brochure is red text saying "Come In!" and a poem in blue text below it welcoming everyone to the USO. The right side of the inside has a schedule typed on a separate sheet of paper glued on the brochure. At the bottom of this inside is a flap that folds up when the brochure is folded up but opens so the bottom lines of text can be read. This banner says "USO AT YOUR SERVICE" in blue text. 2 2024-1-12A Brochure This item has two parts. They are the same brochure but they have since come apart. Part A is the outside and Part B is the inner pages. 12A) The cover for a brochure given to soldiers during World War II. Title is "Here it is: The Armys Tour for You." This is the second edition highlighting Munich, Germany and the Bavarian Highlands. It was issued by the Sp. Sv. HQ 3rd U.S. Army. This front side of the brochure has text in black, red, and blue. The Third U.S. Army's logo is in the center (a white "A" surrounded by red and blue rings). The back side says "See Your SSO" in black letters with red lines highlighting the text. Inside the brochure is a Foreword which gives context for the city of Munich and the surrounding area. Sites are given with information about them and photos. Those sites are Burgerbrau Keller and the Banquet Hall of Hofbrauhaus. The other side has a list of more places to visit and some information about them. Numbers written in roman numerals are on the top corners of the pages. Text is written on the page with Burgerbrau Keller and the Banquet Hall of Hofbrauhaus, written in cursive: "I stood guard at this gate one Day. 3 2024-1-12B Brochure This item has two parts. They are the same brochure but they have since come apart. Part A is the outside and Part B is the inner pages. 12B) A map on one side of the South Bavarian Lake District. Map is in color and shows the city of Munich with lakes and mountains in the distance. The other side has a colored map of the Inn Valley showing smaller cities and mountains in the background. The city of Rosenheim is highlighted on this map. The other half of the brochure has multiple sites listed with information and photos of them. These sites include Konigssee, Berchtesgaden, Wendelstein, Castle Herrenchiemsee, Wendelstein House & Chapel, and Mirror Gallery. Numbers are written in roman numerals are on the top corners of the pages. Paper is crinkled and creased in multiple places but no parts are ripped off. 2024-1-12B (Brochure) image
4 2024-1-2 Postcard Postcard on cardstock from Camp Hood, Texas. Has not been filled out. One side has lines for a return address, a drawing of a soldier scrubbing trash cans, and this text below it: "FURNISHED BY THE SERVICE CLUBS OF CAMP HOOD, TEXAS". Front side is titled "HOODOGRAM" with a blank for the date. The top has a drawing of an angry man, presumably a sergeant. The other side has a drawing of two young soldiers that look rather frightened of the man looking at them. The message is structured so people could put a check in the box that finished the sentence more personally when sending these cards to loved ones. Blank spaces at the bottom for a P.S. are included. This postcard was used at Ford Hood in Texas. The fort was created in 1942 and is still in use today but it is called Fort Cavazos now. 5 2024-1-3 Card Christmas card on thin slippery paper. Front says "Merry Christmas" in red text on a black and white picture. Snowy mountain in the distance and a skeleton wearing a Santa hat leaning up against a Japanese Torii gate, a type of Shinto shrine. Inside is a poem printed on about the war being over and there being peace on earth. It says in type that it is from the 3rd Attack Group, Atsugi, Japan at the bottom. Atsugi was a crucial turning point leading to the end of World War II in the Pacific. Atsugi was taken only a few days before World War II officially ended. 6 2024-1-4 Card Card on cardstock sending "Easter Greetings" (in red text) from MUNICH to HOME. Front says "Easter Greetings" and has a tree branch with two birds above it. There is a window in the card so the cityscape of Munich is visible when the card is closed. When the card is opened, the rest of the inside becomes visible. Munich has a printed drawing of a building above it. The word "TO" has an ocean above it. "HOME" has a picture of the Statue of Liberty and skyscrapers behind it. Clouds and birds are printed on above the rest. The text "Love, Dad & Uncle Don" is written in cursive below the pictures. Slight discolorations on the cream colored card are visible on the parts on the outside. The card has "HACO N/1280" printed in small letters on the back of the card. 2024-1-4 (Card) image
7 2024-1-5 Card Valentine's Day card on brown cardstock-type paper. Hand painted. Front side has a wreath with red flowers on it and a long curly blue bow. A red heart with "february 14th" on it is in the center of the wreath. Inside the card on the left side is the text printed on the card. The sender changed "darling" to "darlings" and signed it "Dad." The right half of the card shows a person holding up a large red "I love you" heart in front of a snow-covered building. The back cover has the text printed at the bottom: "DESIGNED + HANDCOLORED BY ATELIER VRONI ROTTACH (TEGERNSEE) BAVARIA". Rottach and Tegernsee are neighboring towns in Germany that were a Nazi headquarters during World War II. 2024-1-5 (Card) image
8 2024-1-6 Card Christmas card on cardstock. Front side says "Merry Christmas" in cursive text. At the bottom is text denoting the 508th Military Police Battalion in Munich, Germany in 1945. The card has a printed depiction of a building and an American flag in the foreground with mountains in the background. The left side on the inside is a holly and ivy plant. The right half has a poem about sending Christmas greetings to family and friends at home from Munich, Germany. Below the text is written the following in pencil in cursive: "This is best I can offer now / I love all of my Sweethearts. / Dad." All the text and depictions on this card are in green ink. 9 2024-1-8 Pamphlet Army press release from the Athletic Office regarding the Basketball Championship in the Third Army Special Services Section. One side is titled "This is how it was rebuilt this year". Three pictures show the Third Army Athletic Office when it was damaged during World War II and then after it was remodeled and teams were using it for basketball tournaments. Information is given on the left side of the photos. The opposite side has crossed off text and a picture of basketball teams playing a game. Readable but several severe creases and pen marks. 2024-1-8 (Pamphlet) image
10 2024-1-9 Booklet 16-page double-sided booklet about Munich, Germany. The front cover features Munich's Coat of Arms. This is a monk (Munich means "of monks") in black robes with gold trim holding a book in his left hand while wearing red shoes. Directly below the monk is the red, white, and blue "A" logo for the 3rd U.S. Army. Around the monk are various buildings and the name "MUNICH" at the bottom of the page in red ink. A double-lined black border surrounds the whole thing. The inside page gives an introduction to the booklet given by 1st Lt., Cav., Tours Officer Fred J. Roukos, Jr. The booklet gives drawings, some black and white and others in color, of different historical sites in Munich. Descriptions accompany them. Page numbers are written on the top of the pages in pencil. A note is handwritten on Page 2 that says: "I've walked under this several times. It doesn't look like this now." regarding the Old Town Hall building that has walkways that go under it. Page 14 says "Hitler's Beer Hall & now Red Cross Club" regarding the Hofbrauhaus where Hitler founded the Nazi Party in 1920. The back cover of the booklet is a map of Munich showing roads surrounding the city and other towns nearby. The booklet is 64 pages of tourist spots in Paris sorted so visitors can see as much of it as possible in a four day visit. Front cover has printed sketches of Paris landmarks. Published by A. Leconte Publisher, 38, rue Ste-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie, Paris (4e). Inside the cover is a map of Paris. The back cover says: "Guy / Paris / His Post-cards / of Paris, Versailles / and Fontainebleau". The covers are red paper that is rather thin and slippery. There are multiple stains on the covers where the colors bled. The back cover has black paper residue and glue residue on it.

The booklet has historical information about the alcohol's history in France and then ending with recipes including these alcohols. Text is in brown ink. Some pictures are grayscale photographs and others are colored drawings. The covers are thicker paper than the pages of the booklet. The front cover has a bottle of the alcohol in the front and gothic-style architecture behind with light streaming in from a window that cannot be seen from this viewpoint. 35 2024-2-10uuu Flier Object 2024-2-10 is a scrapbook that has been disassembled. Each part is a separate component of the scrapbook. uuu) N.A.B. United States Christmas menu (Le Havre, France 1944). On very thin brown paper with creases and holes from being folded. Front cover is a black outline drawing of a Christmas tree and candles and other things. Inside has a printed menu and the leading officers at the U.S. Naval Base in Le Havre, France. Ink from the printing has transferred to the other side. A piece of clear tape is on the menu but it does not appear to be fixing any tear in the paper. Back side of the menu is affixed to a thick piece of black paper.
36 2024-2-10vvv Map Object 2024-2-10 is a scrapbook that has been disassembled. Each part is a separate component of the scrapbook. vvv) Map of Philadelphia for the Armed Forces. Printed by Philadelphia Transportation Company, January 1944. Map is on a brochure that opens up and the inside has the map in blue and red ink with the Hospitality Center noted the most significantly. When the map is folded closed, the front side is a directory with a list of USO and affiliated wartime agencies in blue ink. The back side says "Memoranda" in blue cursive at the top but the rest is blank. Inside map has an illegible written note in pencil. The front has a note written on that says "Picked this up in June 1944 in Philly". Vertical and horizontal creases on the map. Back side has some black paper transfer and both sides have thinning from having been removed from something it was glued or taped to.

Paper transfer on the front side of the pass that has printed information. The back side has handwritten information on it. Vertical crease.
