11 1998.7.1 Diploma Diploma given to Marie Edmonds from the Public Schools of Pocahontas County on May 28, 1912. The diploma was given at Pocahontas and is signed by Lena M. Olson, a teacher, and the county superintendent of schools, Wallie P. Jensen. A gold seal with green and pink ribbon is in the front lower left corner. The top of the front of the diploma has "Iowa Common School Diploma" written on the stationery. On that stationery is a design of three women, one leaning and holding a harp, another holding a wreath and a camera, while the third is seated. On the ground at their feet are the tools of the artist, a globe, maks from the theatre and palm branches. Diploma is white in color while lettering is in black. 20 RSC-LO-1 Membership Roll Membership list for the 1921 Junior Red Cross for Mt. Hope school, Grandview Township #9, Louisa County. The pledge on the page reads, "We will seek in all ways to live up to the ideals of the Junior Red Cross and devote ourselves to its service. We will strive never to bring discredit to this, our country, by any unworthy act. We will revere and obey our country's laws and do our best to inspire a like reverence and obedience in those about us. We will endeavor in all these ways, as good citizens, to transmit America greater, better, and more beautiful than she was transmitted to us." Fifteen students signed their names: Harvey Brauns, Gace Brauns, Frances Brauns, Paulene Brauns, Helen Brauns, Katharine Cadagan, Albert [too faded to read], Homer Hunt, Helen Hunt, Irene McCulley, Hugh McCulley, Homer {too faded] and the last two names are too faded to read. It's signed by the teach, Christena Brauns with the school's name, Mt. Hope. The document is decorated with an ornate yellow border featuring the Red Cross's iconic "+" sign and "1921" as well as four drawn images of children, each with a title: #1- top center, "America All", picture of two kids with an adult with a cloak draped over their head and body. #2- bottom left, "Team-Work Wins", picture of 7 boys forming a human pyramid. #3- bottom center, "The First American", pictures of a little girl with shoulder length hair. #4- bottom right, "Neighbors Over There", picture of two kids, one barefoot and wearing a head scarf, holding the other child's arm.
