Colonial paper money. 40 shillings. Obverse (portrait): Decorated borders on sides and top. Bottom edge torn and tatered. Emblem, with coat of arms and motto "CONNECTICENCIS SIGILLUM COLONIA" . "THE POSSESSOR of this/BILL shall be paid by the/Treafurer of the Colony of Connecti-/cut - FORTY SHILLINGS - Lawful/Money, by the 31ft Day of De-/cember, - A.D./1779/By Order of Assembly,-/Hartford,-/July Firft, 1775." Signatures are faded and undescernable with unaided eye. Hand numbered "4189" very faded. Reverse(portrait): Block cut in center with "FORTH SHILLINGS" "Lawful Money" "NEW LONDON;"/Printed by T. Green" in center of block. Top edge has "40S." in corners and "(July 1775.)" in center.Also "FORTY SHILLINGS." Printed vertically along bottom left and right margins "Forthy Shillings/July 1775".
