1983.6.8 (Mask)

This is a Mexican mask that could have belonged in the Dance of the Conquest, a traditional dance that reenacts invasions and conversions of the native populations. This mask has vertical lines of red, black, yellow and green. There are two curling horns near the temple of the mask that are also colored. There is a curling nose that is painted too. The mouth is a carved out oval, and above the mouth is a mustache made of beige and black colored straw material. The mask is carved out of wood and contains some damage to the paint.
