Photograph that depicts an overhead view of a trench battlefield. You can see soldiers walking through trenches to the right. This photograph depicts the beginning of the Battle of the Somme between the French and the British in 1916. This battle was one of the worst in WWI history, with 420,000 casualties on the British side and 200,000 casualties on the French side. The battle lasted from July-November 1916. "Beginning of attack in Somme valley" written on the back of the print in black ink. Black and white photo print with black border.
