Teacher's certificate for Aletha Jacobs to teach first grade in Buchanan County, valid for two years. Signed in Independance, Iowa, Aug. 1, 1906, by M. J. Goodrich, the county superintendent. Results of the teacher's exam are listed near the bottom of the paper. The page has a thick, black, decorative border, an illustration of an three women in the center, and a space for a seal in the bottom left corner. Printed by the W. M. Welch Co., Chicago, Ill.

Aletha Hutchison Jacobs, born in Buchannan County, Iowa, was a teacher for rural schools in Benton County (1900-1902), Buchanan County (1902-1910), Black Hawk County (1912-1916), Grundy County (1916-1920), Wright County (1920-1921), and Webster County (1922). In 1922 she moved to Pennsylvania with her husband, Elmer. There she taught at Hummelstown High School in Dauphin County (1922-1924) and Reamstown School in East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County (1926-1960).
