1993.24.227 (Card) image

Valentine's card, handmade with two sheets of gray paper cut into the shape of a heart and tied together at the top with red thread bows. The cover has a cut-out illustration of a boy holding a hat and a cut-out heart that reads, "My heart." Inside, one side reads "To the teacher," the other has another cut-out illustration of a tree and three white flowers above the message "I love you Thy Valentine." The back says, "To the teacher." A small blue thread loop is tied through a hole in the bottom point.

This was among a series of cards from the Barck family. Harry Barck was the secretary for the District Board of Education for Eddy #6 school, Cedar Falls Township, Black Hawk County, Iowa. He married Pauline Heckel, a teacher for rural schools in Bremer County and an Iowa State Normal School alumna. They had two children, Philip and Frances, who donated this item as part of the Harry Barck collection.
