Peter Melendy Community Builder Award trophy. Base of trophy is a black cube that angles in at the top. Information on the recipient is on the front in gold text. All text is centered. Lines of text say "Peter Melendy," "Community Builder Award," "Presented to," "Herman Casewell Hemenway," Father of Iowa Normal School (UNI)," "Student Benefactor," "and Public Servant," "2015," "Cedar Falls Community Foundation" (only this last line is in italics). The trophy is in the shape of the top of a lamp post (the tip of the pole and the light fixture). It is clear and made up of approximately 1-1.5 cm wide panes of glass. The entire trophy is very heavy. The right side of the black base has a small (3 cm wide) mark, appearing to be a sticky residue. No other foreign markings on the trophy.

Herman Casewell Hemenway, the recipient of this award, moved to Iowa from previous homes in New York and Illinois in 1860, then served in the Civil War with the Co. C, 27th Iowa Infantry. He moved to Cedar Falls after the end of the war. Hemenway served in the State Legislature beginning in 1876 where he helped establish the Normal School in Cedar Falls. Because of his involvement with this legislation, he was dubbed the "Father of the Normal School." Hemenway served on the Board of Trustees of the Normal School until November 1877 when he became a State Senator. Over the course of his life, Hemenway and his wife paid for 14 young women to attend the Normal School who could not have afforded it on their own. Hemenway died in 1922 in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the age of 89. Hemenway received this award for his work in developing the University of Northern Iowa and Cedar Falls as a whole.
