The front cover features the title, a subtitle that reads "J.S. Latta, Inc. Mailing Price, $2.00," and a black-and-white illustration of a teacher and students in a classroom. This book was originally purchased from J.S. Latta & Son in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Handwriting on the top of the front cover reads "Miss Hildegarde Gruis," who was a rural schoolteacher in Iowa's Wright and Franklin counties in the early 1940s.
