Written on back is "A close up of the home from which the canoe paddle was obtained. There were several families occupying this home. Wearing blue jeans, printed green, yellow, brown, cream and orange short-sleeved top with a yellow scarf around neck and shoulders and also wearing blue cloth headscarf. Face is made of dark brown material. Hands and feet of light brown material. Face is made of stitiching different colored thread as mouth, eyes, nose, and eyebrows. Right arm is grasping bundle which is being carried on his shoulder. He appears to be walking, one foot in front of the other. Nailed down to the wood stand with 2 nails; one through each foot. b. 159 1973.54.3.4 Tray Shape of a tulip, except instead of rounded bottom it goes out to points on each side. Has short handle at one end and at the opposite end comes to three triangular points. Shiny. Lacquered finish. Color: BR,TN
160 1973.54.3.5 Drum Main body is painted with designs. Around the bottom are four horizontal lines of red, yellow, red, yellow; then begins painted design of two grey snakes surrounded by multi-colored dots, next to snakes; (turning object to the left) is painting of rooster head, the word Haiti, then some sort of symbol like a mask with face painted on it. Top of drum is made of animal hide and skin. Skin on top is pulled tightly over drum with all animal hair removed. Over the sides of the drum the hide is pulled and tacked down by inserting four wood sticks into drum. The animal hair remains on the skin on sides of drum. Has twine handle laced around wood pegs for carrying. Color: BK,ML
