1 1968.4 Paddle, Sorority Paddle from the Iowa State Teachers College Shakespeare Literary Society, in which Ruth Welsh, class of 1932, was the treasurer, and Edith Diamond, class of 1933, was a member. The group first convened in September 1884 and had its last meeting in 1981. The group met and held events to discuss the works of Shakespeare and their application to present day life, as well as have readings of his works. ISTC sorority paddle with insignia including "ISTC" and "Shake" at broad end and "Ruth Welsh" and "1931" at handle on same side and "Edith Diamond" on handle on reverse side. 2 1984.6.8 Paddle, sorority Phi Theta Pi sorority paddle. First mention of the sorority in UNI archives is October 1924.Their colors were gold and blue. In an issue of the Northern Iowan from November 1967, Phi Theta Pi makes an announcement that all current members and the pledge class of 1967 will be initiated into Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority as Phi Theta Pi decided to join a national sorority. Alpha Gamma Delta shut down at the end of Fall term 1979 according to an article in the Northern Iowan. The front of the handle says Dorothy. Probably Dorothy E Dawson, Class of 1929, pledge class of 1929. Name on the back is Ruth, could be a gift from Ruth Eells, class of 1930-1932, pledge class of 1926. Ruth Eells was the daughter of rural education professor Harry LeRoy Eells, and the future wife of Lowell Carver, member of Lambda Gamma Nu and Phi Tau Theta Pi Theta Pi. 4 2007.12.2 Staff Pi Tau Phi social sorority. The sorority began in December 1925. Very little is to be found about the Pi Tau Phi sorority as they are no longer a sorority on campus. During the 1960s they joined Alpha Delta Pi national sorority, as was mentioned in the April 1985 Northern Iowan (School Newspaper) in an article about a scholarship that was made to honor the women who were part of the Pi Tau Phi sorority.
