An image is outlined on the entire front cover and depicts a young girl holding a doll standing next to a young boy. The children are staring out over a fence at a tree. Birds are flying around and perched on the fence. Edges and corners (especially the binding) are beginning to tear. The back cover is stained and discolored. "Pearl Leone Brown" is written on the first and last page. All pages are well secured and attached to the binding. Book is 146 pages including the index and "Suggestions to the Teacher" sections.

Edges and corners have some wear and tear, but are in good condition. Stains discolor the top and bottom edges of the front cover, but does not effect the back cover or pages. Binding is strong and stable; the pages are all attached. "Pearl Brown E. Waterloo, Iowa District No. 5 1917" is handwritten on the first page. "Pearl Brown Waterloo, Ia" is written on the last page. Book is 244 pages including the "Suggestions to Teachers" section.

An image is outlined in dark green and depicts three children standing outside wearing winter clothing. The two children on either side and pulling sleds. The child in the middle is wearing a muffler. The edges and corners have some wear and tear but are in strong and stable condition. "Pearl Brown P5 Iowa 1916" is written on the first page; "Pearl Leona Brown" is written in pencil opposite of the title page. There are some drawings, tracings, and doodles throughout the book. There are 168 pages including the index and "Suggestions to Teachers" sections.

The middle ship has two sails with crosses. A globe is pictured below the title and author. A moisture stain around the binding and top edge is visible. A red ink stain covers the center of the binding and a dot is located in the top left corner. "Miss Pearl Leona Brown Waterloo, Iowa" is written on both sides of the first page. Notes and markings are throughout the book. A list is written on the back interior cover. Black and white as well as color images and maps are present. Book is 304 pages excluding appendix.

"Nellie Stromer Klemme, Iowa Hancock Co. Ell No. 4" is written on the last page.

A compass is pictured below the title as well as on the back cover. Binding is weak and beginning to tear. The first few pages have been removed, otherwise all other pages are attached. "Mr. Albert Barnhart Iowa Falls, Iowa Nov. 18, 1907" is written on the last page. Color as well as black and white pictures, diagrams, and maps are present throughout the book. It is 331 pages excluding the references and index. A section on Iowa geography is at the end and is 24 pages.

Three prints are on the interior cover. Binding is weak and pages are vulernable to detachment. Book is 478 pages including index. The answers section is an additional 56 pages.
