RSC-Ohio-143 (Certificate)

An elementary school teacher's certificate from 1905. From the top it reads: "No. 112, Class Two. Teacher' Elementary School Certificate. The State of Ohio, County of Brown. Know all men by these presents, That Louis P. Pobst, Having furnished satisfactory evidence of good Moral Character and having been examined in the branches required by law of a Teacher's Elementary School Certificate, as per margin, is hereby authorized to teach in Schools of (added in handwriting "^Brown") Ohio, for Five years from the date hereof, unless this certificate is revoked. Signed and dated at Georgetown, Ohio, by the undersigned School Examiners of said County, this Fourth day of March, A. D. 1905." Signed, A. J. Hanselman, J. W. Danphree, and A. O. W. Peurrell. To the left of the signatures is a box of the student's exam scores for the following subjects: orthography, reading, writing, arithmetic, English grammar, geography, U. S. hist. and civil gov., physiology, literature, theory and practice, and (written in) algebra. The document is printed in dark red ink and has a decorative border as well as several small icon decorations added in each corner and throughout the page.
