Handwritten teacher's certificate from Janesville, Muskingum County, Ohio, 1868 for J. G. Hamilton. His test scores in seven subjects and overall grade are written in the middle of the page. Written on a lined piece of notebook paper, folder in horizontal fourths. 

From top to bottom it reads: "No. 394 School Examiners Office, Janesville, O. The Board of School Examiners of Muskingum County Ohio Certify That they have examined J. G. Hamilton and find him qualified to teach the following branches: orthography, reading, writing, arithmetic, geography, English grammar, and theory and practice. We also certify that he has furnished satisfactory evidence of good moral character. This Certificate to be valid for 18 months if not sooner revoked. Aug. 15, 1868." Signed by examiners G. J. Newman, A. S. Wiles, and S. C. Marshall.
