Handmade valentine of tan construction paper, in the shape of a heart that opens in the middle. The top layer has a red colored pencil border, an illustration of a flower with green leaves on each half, and says "To My Valentine." Inside is a poem written in pencil that says, "Daisy, Deary seal at my fate make those petals stay at eight. From, Arthur Hemming." The back faintly says, "Miss Pauline."

Miss Pauline Heckel, born in Waterloo, Iowa, was a teacher for rural schools in Bremer County and attended Iowa State Normal School in Cedar Falls. She later married Harry Barck, secretary for the District Board of Education for Eddy #6 school, Cedar Falls Township, Black Hawk County. They had two children, Philip and Frances, who donated this item as part of the Harry Barck collection.
