Handmade valentine from a square of paper. Each corner has been folded to the center and then folded back to the folded edge just made. Center section created by the last fold has printed group of pansies attached. Edge of paper outlined on top in purple. Each corner has a small red crayoned heart glued across cut edges of paper. One word is written in pencil on each triangle folded back from the center. Read clockwise the words are "To My Dear Valentine". Back reads "Miss Pauline Heckel". A red thread hanging loop is attached to one side.

Miss Pauline Heckel, born in Waterloo, Iowa, was a teacher for rural schools in Bremer County and attended Iowa State Normal School in Cedar Falls. She later married Harry Barck, secretary for the District Board of Education for Eddy #6 school, Cedar Falls Township, Black Hawk County. They had two children, Philip and Frances, who donated this item as part of the Harry Barck collection.
