This is a carved wood mask from Mexico. The wood is very light colored and there is no paint or extra additions to the mask. The mask has two bulging eyes and thin slits above for the mask wearer to see out of the mask. The nose is wide and has six indentations present, and no nostrils are carved. There appears to be an open mouth on this mask. There is a top lip that thins and curves outward. Inside of the mouth are two carved snakes that are descending from the top of the mask near its forehead. The snakes have carved eyes, mouths, and pattern features. The mask has two ears of an animal on the top, and between that is carved spikey hair. There are carved teeth in the mouth and two large sharp teeth are present at the bottom middle of the mouth. Along the outside of the mask are more carved indentations. Two holes are carved into the sides. On the back of the mask is the following, written in pen: "Patzuaro Michoacan 15 peso- 6 narco 1954 copalillo Madora Above is not correct"
