2024-1-45 (Patch)

Waffen-SS collar tab from the 23 SS Freiwilligen Panzergrenadier-Division Nederland. This is the second pattern made for this collar tab, indicating its use was after February 1945. This was the symbol for the Dutch people who joined the Nazis between 1941 and 1945. The symbol is called the "Wolfsangel" or "Wolf's Hook" and was the intended symbol for the Nazis because of its ancient symbolism and use in Germanic culture long before World War II. These collar tabs were worn with one on each side of the collar. This patch is the one worn on the soldier's right side. The one on the soldier's left side gave that soldier's rank. The patch is black fabric with the insignia in silver thread in the center. There are some light colored pieces of fuzz on it, plus a small white discoloration on the front.
