Waffen-SS collar tab, SS Mann type 3. These collar tabs were worn with one on each side. This patch is the one worn on the soldier's right side. This type of tab was used for enlisted and non-commissioned officers from Privates up to Lieutenant Colonels in the SS. The one on the soldier's left side gave the individual soldier's rank. Based on the lack of piping around the border of this patch, it was used between 1940-5. The patch is black with two silver lightning bolt-shaped shapes stitched on. This was the symbol of the SS and abstractly resembles those letters.
