Hair, eyebrows, lids, scarification on cheek, and lower eyelashes painted black. Scarification on cheek has also been carved in. Nails to left rear of bird and right rear of chin. The latter nail pierces a small piece of leather/hide. Jaw attached with fiber through holes in jaw and holes below ears. Ears are pierced. Holes above ear and at rear of hairline. 534 1997.4.2A Drum Drum and stick. a. Drum appears to be made of hollow tree trunk. Secured at bottom and top with shaped branch and also rope, encircling it. At four places two ropes stretched from top to bottom, spread 4" at top and bottom and lashed together with leather thong in center for several inches. Crown of feathers wrapped around one end for 27 1/2". Top and bottom are parchment made from animal skin. Rope carrying handle. Hole, 3/8" diameter, drilled in each side. b. Drumstick. 536 1997.5.0001 Figurine Human figure with elaborate mask. Central part of mask is a carved wooden face surrounded by raffia that extends, front & back, to thighs. wooden mask includes ears. Patterns of paint are on forehead, nose, cheeks and lower lip. Eyes are openings in mask. Legs are covered in black fabric. Figure holds a bow and arrow at left, and two sticks at right. 537 1997.5.0002 Figurine Navy blue knit figure carrying a stick. Eyes are pasted on and outlined in red string. A white feather pierces the forehead and there is a red raffia top knot. Tri-color (red, navy blue, tan) ruff is knotted on at wrists and ankles. a larger, wider ruff encircles the neck. Attached to this are three white feathers, and in back, a gold edged green fabric stiff crown shape. 540 1997.5.14 Container, mascara In shape of cone, tapering to a cylinder 1/2" long, at top. Widest part of cone, the bottom, has solid bottom ap;lied. Lid is 7/8" long tube with circular top of another piece ot tin. Lid is longer than cylindrical portion of container on to which it fits. Cone has 9 vertical rows of tiny dots formed by pounding on inside of metal before forming the container. Filled with powdered hematite. Color: GY
541 1997.5.18A Suit Man's unlined, unfitted lightweight suit of gray tweed. Collar, narrow lapels and left edge are stiffened with non-woven fabric interfacing. No shoulder pads. Two chest pockets are patch styled with bottom corners rounded. Gold fabric is used at top and on a wedge at center edge, with a strip of suit fabric sewn on top of the gold. One-inch turned up hem.
542 1997.5.18B Suit Pants Slacks have single pleat each side, and slash pockets at side seams. Rear pocket on right has button tab. Belt loops. Inside facing is stamped "Executive Super Design". Legs have 2' hem. All hems and seams through are machine overcast.
543 1997.5.19 Bag, shopping Woven plaid bag bound with white binding. white zipper across center top, full length of top panel. 2 handles 7/8" wide are formed by one continuous strip of the same plaid, stitched at both edges down the side of the bag, across the bottom, up the side to form a handle, down the side, across the bottom, etc. Two manufacturer's paper labels stitched at top of one side between handles. One says "Parrot Brand Made in China" plus Chinese writing. The other reads 'JALOK MADE IN CHINA" and has two logos, one of thee arrows forming a triangle, marked PP, with 05 inside. The other is a circle with arrow inside, marked "Peregrune Punkt." Color: WH,BL,RD

Dress is floor length, unconstructed, with scoop neck and extended shoulders. Made of one length of fabric seamed at the sides and folded crosswise to form shoulder line. Narrow turned up hem at bottom, sleeve edges and neckline. Chain stitich machine embroidery in white and yellow forms yoke 8 - 10" wide. Fabric in this area underlined with nonwoven interfacing. b. Headwrap. Same fabric, with narrow machine-stitched hem at ends, selvedge on both sides, and center seam the entire length. Machine chain stitch design, underlined, is of concentric yellow rings with loops at outside and white scallope line at outer edge. Color: BL,RD,BK,WH,YL

546 1997.5.21 Briefcase Traditional shape briefcase with top zipper and two compartments on inside. Outside is plastic-sheathed fabric panels that appear to have been batik-dyed. Accordion panel at top and ends is black plastic. Zipper is longer than side panels, to allow greater opening width. Fabric used is black with panels overlay design of green diagonal stripes in turn overlaid with white diagonal stripes, panels narrower and in reverse direction from green. 548 2005.2.0013 Drum Barrel drum that has a circular, round base that is wider than the body of the drum. One side of the drum has a handle that is designed to be a curved snake/reptile figure that has etchings on its body as decoration, The other side of the drum also has a handle, but it is a leather top that is attached to two triangular raised reliefs at opposing sides. 550 2006.13.0004 Mask Wooden mask with carved facial features and head wear. Has antelope horns, ears turned to the side and human face. The eyes are carved into thin slits. There is zig-zag style adornment around the sides of the face, ending at a rounded goatee below the chin.
