1 2021-19-6 Mask This mask is from the Guro people of the Ivory Coast. Starting with the face, there are two carved eye slits that are diagonal with line carvings surrounding them. There are two plain ears that are on each side of the face. The nose is long and skinny, and no nostrils are found. The mouth is more like a beak, and it is holding a fish with it. The dish has patterns and carved fin and eye details. On the cheeks are six raised wood spots. There are three raised portions on the forehead, but the piece has a large scuff or tread mark located above the right eye, sanded down to original wood. The head of the mask features a linear hairdo, and above that is a carved square block followed by a disk, both connected to the piece as they are made of the same wood.  2021-19-6 (Mask) image
2 2021-19-8 Mask This is a mask made from the Guro people of Ivory Coast. This mask, made of wood, includes a face, two horns, and one large bird at the center of the head. The face contains human features and has a protruding triangle pattern on the sides of its face. There is also a small stand on the chin. The horns are carved with horizontal and diagonal lines, and the birds long beak is attached to the forehead. The birds body is painted red and it has two red eyes.  2021-19-8 (Mask) image
3 2021-19-9 Mask This is a mask from the Guro people of the Ivory Coast. Starting with the forehead, carved triangle patterns are in four rows horizontally across. In the center of the fourth row there is a vertical wooden knob with a hole. A piece of blue string is laced and tied to it. The face of the mask has two downturned eyelids and eye slits underneath. Two carved ears and a small open mouth is also present. The nose is normal but has tin plating nailed into it. Tin plating is nailed into much of the masks face. Around the rim of the mask on the backside is a light colored fabric that drapes over the head of the person wearing the mask.
