51 2021-1-252 Booklet Titled "New Stanford Achievement: Advanced Examination: Form V. For grades 4-9." Test by Truman L. Kelley, Giles M. Ruch, and Lewis M. Terman. 24 pages long. This exam was taken by Doris Mae Rihman, a girl in the 6th grade who was 10 years old. Her next birthday was on July, 17th, and she would be 11 years old then. She went to Lennox 2 School and took the exam on November 19, 1937.  Her scores indicated that in History and Civics she needs attention, and overall her grade equivalent put her in the 5th grade.  The second page had a chart with the test scores and how that fell along a national median as well as how the scores related to educational age, chronological age, and school grade. A blue and red line had charted where her scores lined up with the averages. The tests she took for this test were:  Test 1 Reading: Paragraph Meaning is from page 3 through page 5 and has 80 questions. Page 6 through page 7 is Test 2 Reading: Word Meaning and also had 80 questions. Test 3: Diction was pages 8 and 9 and consisted of dotted lines on the paper where she wroe various sentences. In red someone wrote Grade 6. Test 4: Language Usage was on pages 10 and 11 and had 74 questions. Test 5 Literature was 80 questions and on pages 12 and 13. Pages 14 and 15 are Test 6 History and Civics with 80 questions. Test 7 Geography is also 80 questions and on pages 16 and 17. Test 8, Physiology and Hygiene is 80 questions and is from page 18 to page 19. Pages 19 and 20 are for the 40 questions for the Test 9 Arithmetic Reasoning. The rest of the pages are for the 60 questions for Arithmetic Computation. Throughout the booklet, the questions that she had answered correctly were marked with the letter "c" and the incorrect questions were marked with a checkmark. Part 1—Reading Comprehension has selection no. 1 with 4 paragraphs. There are 13 questions for selection 1. Page 2 starts selection no. 2 with three paragraphs and 15 questions. Selection no. 3 is 3 paragraphs with 15 questions. Part 2 is Vocabulary with 26 questions to underline the answer. Part 3 is spelling with 26 questions. Part 4 is usage with 46 questions. Part 5 is capitalization with 65 selections. Part 6 is punctuation with 56 questions. Part 7 is Arithmetic Vocabulary and Fundamental Knowledge that includes 25 questions. Part 8 is Arithmetic—examples with 20 math problems to be worked out. Part 9 is 18 Arithmetic problems that include sentences. Part 10 is 49 Social Studies American History and Civics questions. Part 11 is Geography with 33 questions. Part 12 is Science and Health with 56 questions. Exam is unused except for multiple pencil marks on various questions. Test is a bit dirty and torn at places but otherwise in good shape. 
53 2021-1-254 Booklet This test booklet from the State of Iowa was the "Questions in Civics for the Eighth Grade Examination" for May, 1935. The first page had a space for the pupil and teacher's names, the school, the address, the pupil's score, and the percentage grade. The entire test was 50 questions and took up four pages. This test booklet is ripped up at the top.

Part 8 is Arithmetic—Examples with 20 problems. Part 9 is Arithmetic Problems and includes 18 questions. Part 10 is History with 70 questions. Part 11 is Geography and 74 questions. Part 12 is Civics section and has 47 questions. Part 13 is Science and Health with 48 questions. Test is unused except for some pencil marks throughout booklet. First two pages are connected by a white string while the rest have some folded pages together. 
56 2021-1-258 Paper This test sheet from the State of Iowa was the "Questions in Spelling for the Eighth Grade Examination" for May, 1935. The first part had a space for the pupil and teacher's names, the school, the address, the pupil's score, and the percentage grade. The entire test was 56 questions and was on the front and back of the paper, and the paper is blank.
57 2021-1-260 Booklet This test booklet from the State of Iowa was the "Questions in Geography for the Eighth Grade Examination" for May 1-2, 1941. Parts 1 through 5 were by F.E. Fuller and Parts 6 through 11 were by Ernestine Smith from the Iowa State Teachers College. The first page, or cover, had a space for the student's name, sex, grade, age on last birthday, number of months since last birthday, school, city, township, county, and teacher. The entire test, including the front and back cover, was eight pages. Part 1 is 30 questions and takes up page 1 and half of page 2. On the other half of page 2 are Part 2 (questions 31-40) and Part 3 (questions 41-47). Parts 4-6 each take up one third of page 4. Part 4 is questions 48-49, Part 5 is questions 50-54 and Part 6 is made up of questions 55-59. Part 7, 8, and 9 each take up one third of page 5 and Part 7 has questions 60-74, Part 8 has questions 75-80, and Part 9 has questions 81 through 87. Page 6 is a map of the world, and page 7 has Part 10 and 11 on it. Part 10 has questions 88-104 and Part 11 had questions 105 through 112. This test booklet is blank.
58 2021-1-264 Booklet A 1944 mental ability test. Taken by Tommy Schumacher, an 11-year-old 6th grader from Lennox #4, Iowa County, on December 14th, 1944. His teacher was Mrs. Schulte. This test booklet from the Clapp-Young Self-Marking Tests, Patented March 19, 1929. Also Licensed under U.S. Patent 1, 586,628 and edited by Frank L. Clapp, Professor of Education from University of Wisconsin was "The Henmon-Nelson Tests of Mental Ability -Form A" for elementary school examination grades 3-8 by V.A.C. Henmon, Ph.D., Chairman of the Department of Psychology, University of Wisconsin, and M.J. Nelson, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Education, Iowa State Teachers College. The copyright was in 1931 by V.A.C. Henmon and M.J. Nelson. The Houghton Mifflin Company printed this test in the U.S.A.

This booklet was copywritten in 1934, and would have been used by rural school teachers as a guide on how to celebrate the holidays in May and teach them to students.

This is a booklet of materials that rural schoolteachers could have given to students during parts of the school day to help fill time and keep students on task and continuously learning. 87 2021-1-75 Booklet "Units and Projects Primary," copywritten in 1936 by the Educational Publishing Corporation in 1936 in New York, NY. This is a booklet of activities, crafts, and other projects related to subjects taught at a rural school that the teacher could have used to teach their students. The front cover has "Sylvia Brockshink Norway, Iowa," handwritten on it. 
88 2021-1-76 Booklet "Washington's Birthday," copywritten in 1934 by the Classroom Teacher Inc. in Chicago, IL. This is a booklet in the "Plans for Celebrating Special Days and Holidays in the Primary Grades," collection, and could have been used by a rural school teacher to educate their students about Washington's birthday. 
89 2021-1-77 Book "Building Reading Skills Teacher's Guidebook," by Leila Armstrong, Director of Elementary Education, and Rowena Hargrave, Remedial Teacher, was published by the McCormick-Mathers Publishing Co. and copywritten in 1951. This guidebook could be used by teachers to help teach students reading skills including phonics. This booklet has dozens of flashcards and activities paperclipped to the pages, and the front cover has, "Office Copy," handwritten in the top right corner. 
90 2021-1-78 Booklet "Instructional Units in Safety for Elementary Grades and Junior High Schools," sent out by the Department of Public Instruction in the State of Iowa, copywritten in 1940. This book on safety units would have instructed teachers on what they would have needed to teach their students about safety. 
91 2021-1-83 Booklet This booklet, "St. Valentine's Day," by the National Recreation Association in New York, NY, contained a set of plays, dialogues, recitations, stunts, party suggestions, and other types of program material for teachers to use with their students to celebrate Valentine's Day. Published by the National Recreation Association, New York. 
92 2021-1-85 Poll This piece of paper came from The Classroom Teacher, Inc, and details the Absences from School Caused By Illnesses by grades 1-8 from September 10, 1934 to May 31, 1935. This poll lists colds and sore throat as the top reason for student absences and Measles as the least common illness that students had.
