1 2024-3-12A Sword Object 2024-3-12 is two parts. Part A is the sword and part B is the sheath. A) Georgian Khanjali. Three grooves on both sides down the blade. The handle has black scrollwork and black stone inlaid. Accompanies the formal male supra dance costume (2024-3-23). Worn around the waist. Used as part of the ceremonial dance. 2 2024-3-12B Sheath Object 2024-3-12 is two parts. Part A is the sword and part B is the sheath. B) Georgian Khanjali's sheath. Black scrollwork and black stone inlaid. Some tarnishing at the junctures of the sheath, including decorative work in the metal. Accompanies the formal male supra dance costume (2024-3-23). Worn around the waist. 3 2024-3-24 Rope Georgian gold fabric rope. Possibly used as a decorative belt in the male dress for the supra festival (object 2024-3-23) or as a belt to carry the sword (object 2024-3-12). 4 2024-3-26 Hat Georgian khevsurian - a knitted hat. The Khevsur are an ethnic group inside Georgia. These people lived in the historical Khevsureti region and have legends surrounding them in Georgian legends. Black knit hat with gray, white, and red cross stitches in x patterns around it. 5 2024-3-31 Collection Wooden box with a plastic top to see inside. The box opens up to reveal a collection of replicas of metal antiques sitting on black felt. Labels for the various objects are black with white text in English and Georgian and sit next to the object. Objects included are replicas of a Colchian axe, Poleax shaped axe, Colchis bronze axe, axe, and five Roman coins. 6 2024-3-5 Book Georgian book. Gold patterned hard cover with blue and red inlaid. The center has a depiction of a man fighting a tiger in the gold inlaid. The back cover has a pattern in the gold. The spine has the same gold patterning including a gold cord affixed to the top and bottom ends of the spine. The top of these cords is only attached by its ends, but the bottom end is fully attached. The upper half of the spine has a small dent. The inside covers have gold sparkly patterned paper. Inside the front cover is a depiction of the Icon of Ancha. It was created by Beka Opizari in 1184-1293, called Our Savior of Anchiskhati. The Anchiskhati Basilica is the oldest Greek Orthodox church in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The next page has a depiction of a painting of Shota Rustaveli, a Georgian poet and author of the Georgian national epic, translated as "The Knight in the Tiger Skin". The story in the book is "The Knight in the Tiger Skin", written in Georgian script with a few page-sized depictions of artworks. A few blank pages with just the red page border are at the end of the book. The final page is a depiction of the artwork, the Vardzia Icon of the Virgin from the 10th century. The back covers have gold sparkly patterned paper matching the front inside cover. Inside the front cover was a small white card with a shiny gold border on both sides. The back side has a seal on it in shiny gold. The front side says "Whith best wishes" and "Metropolitan of Poti and Rhobi", an Orthodox monastery. 7 2024-3-6 Book Georgian book. Gold patterned hard cover with green and red inlaid. The center has a depiction of a man fighting a tiger in the gold inlaid. The back cover is black with gold pattern around the edges. The spine has the same gold patterning including a gold cord affixed to the top and bottom ends of the spine. The inside covers have gold sparkly patterned paper. Written on the title page in blue ink is "To Her Excellency, Ambassador Kelly C. Degnan / From International Black Sea University / Rector / Saffet Bagualtutan / Tbilisi, 24.05.2020 / [signature]". This was a gift to the former U.S. Ambassador (Kelly Degnan, 2020-2023) who donated it to a third party upon leaving Georgia. The story in the book is "The Knight in the Tiger Skin", written in English. This is the national epic of Georgia and its author is Shota Rustaveli. Each page has a black decorative border.
