3014 1976.28 Bowl Written description from source file: Pre-Columbian bowl from Mexico from Zacatecas culture near Durango. 300-400 B.C. 8 5/8" diameter x 1 3/4" high. Tan with red border and line decorations. The three parallel lines extending from near the border and going toward center divide the bowl into quarters. These lines, [...], the heavy painted rim, and the slipped glaze indicate a tie-in in cultures between the Zacatecas (Plains and North Central Indians) and the Plains Indians from Guatemala northward. Artistically pieces such as this are related to Zacatecas and are so classified, but culturally they are out of place there. Therefore they show some transition and are valuable for this reason. Brought to the museum 4-8-76 by Dan Yeager and donated by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. R. B. Yeager [...] Several pieces chipped from the rim were brought with the bowl. One that obviously fit in a particular place along rim was glued to it 4-9-76 by P. L. Sauer, museum director, using Elmer's Glue-all. Two other small chips that obviously fit together were glued together and placed in a small pasteboard box with other chips. Other Descriptions: Tan with red border and line decorations. The three parallel lines extending from near the border and going toward the center divide the bowl into quarters. Color: TN,RD Fragments of the bowl are bagged. -Wear pattern in middle indicates some for of regular use in the object’s lifetime 1976.28 (Bowl) image
