8215 RSC-JO-4 Book Jones County Board of Education minute book, 1972-1975. Contains information on hiring, county-level expenses, and cross-county collaboration on education. Particular focus on special education and work-study programs. Multiple items either glued into the book or secured using the minute book's metal hinge system. Interleaved items range from adopted budgets to letters from officials. In the front of the minute book is correspondence on documenting complience with the 1965 Civil Rights Act in relation to school milk programs. 131 total pages, numbered 629-760.
8216 RSC-JO-5 Book Jones County Board of Education minute book, 1911-1947. Content covers financial decisions, textbook adoption, consolidation, and other county level education business. Items interleaved in book, some are glued in. A few items are of particular note: textbook lists from the 1920s and 1940s, a 'resolution of respect'/eulogy note from the board, and a notice about a meeting to determine whether to pay tuition for some students to attend another county's school to avoid crossing a stream.

8236 RSC-Kansas-6 Photograph Color photo of the Lower Fox Creek (District #14) limestone school, located on the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve near Strong City, Kansas. The photo, taken by Jayme Owens, shows the school sitting among golden colored tall grasses with a tall bare tree to the right. The sky can be seen through its three side windows. The photo earned second place at the 2006 Iowa State Fair. This school, built in 1882, is preserved as a national historic landmark by the National Park Service. It was open as school from 1884-1930, when it was then used either as a bunkhouse or to store hay. While it was open, attendance ranged from 3 to 19 students and served eight grade levels. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and bought by the National Park Service in 1996 as part of the prairie reserve.  RSC-Kansas-6 (Photograph) image

8238 RSC-Kentucky-2 Certificate The Common Schools of Kentucky Diploma for Lutitia Cook issued in 1906. Gradated from the Common School in Lineoln County. 
8239 RSC-Kentucky-3 Card Handmade merit card given to Paulina Burkhardt of District No. 53, Cedar Run, Greenup County, Kentucky, on Oct. 21, 1870. The teacher was William M. Wills. The card is a small piece of lined paper with a handmade decorative border. All info is in black ink.  It reads: "This is to certify that Paulina Burkhardt does stand head of the 1st class spelling also Good behavior in school correct recitation Punctual attendance and merits esteem. Given under my hand Oct 21st, 1870, public School District No. 53, Cedar Run Greenup Co. Ky."

8242 RSC-KO-3 Certificate, Spelling Red booklet marked "Certificate of Award" on the front in gold, embossed letters. Inside is a paper that says "Keokuk County" across the top. "This Certifies That Mary Ellen Shanafelt, A Pupil of No. 4, Plank Township, Keokuk County Public Schools, is awarded this Certificate for Excellence in Spelling, having achieved One Hundred Perfect Spelling Lessons, as shown by the attainment of Five Perfect Spelling Certificates. Given at Sigourney, Iowa, this 7th day of Oct. 1931." Signed by the County Superintendent of Schools, Harry S. McVicker, and the teacher, Mildred Croon. The certificate is stamped on the lower left corner with the County Superintendent of Schools's official green seal. The paper is decorated on the top left with a red cardinal on a green branch.

Inside, an attached piece of paper reads, "Certificate of Award. This Certifies That Margery Shanafelt, A Pupil of the Public Schools of Keokuk County, Iowa, is awarded this Certificate for Punctual and Regular Attendance, having received Eight Monthly Certificates for Perfect Attendance and therefore merits this Testimonial. Given at Sigourney, Iowa, this seventh day of October, 1931. Thornyhill School District No. 4, Plank Township." Signed by Harry S. Hasty, on November 9, 1872, in Sigourney, Keokuk County, Iowa. The certificate shows he did not take the teachers examination. Includes his examination scores.

8262 RSC-KS-1 Booklet Award booklet for Anna Flom of Dist. #5, Westley Twp. School, Kossuth County, Iowa, for having 36 months of perfect attendance. Given at Algona, May 25th, 1923. Signed by Wm. Shirley, the superintendent of schools. Printed by the Metropolitan Supply Company, Anamosa, IA. The booklet has sixteen pages including several quotes and poems, illustrations of Abraham Lincoln and Georg Washington, and spaces to write the teacher's classmate's names (though empty). The covers are made of white and light blue marbled paper with "Award of Honor" on the front and an illustration of the capitol building on the back. It is bound together by a small green string.
