2201 2022-17-3 Clock University of Northern Iowa small silver desk clock.  Price tag located on the back of the object, stating it was sold for $21.99.  The description on the price tag reads as follows, "Clock/Arc Metal UNI."  The object is round on the top making it an arc in shape.  The bottom of the object has a layer of felt.   2022-17-3 (Clock) image
2202 2022-22-1 Bell UNI Commemorative Bell for 10-7-2022 campaign kickoff.  Bell is attached to a keychain.  Also included on the keychain is a gold emblem that has a depiction of the University of Northern Iowa logo on one side and a depiction of the campanile on the other side.   2022-22-1 (Bell) image
2203 2022-22-2 Book "Glee Club Songs" book by Fullerton.  This book includes a large complilation of songs put together by Charles Alexander Fullerton.  Fullerton was involved in the development of music education in the state of Iowa.  He was known for his "choir plan," which was a very effective education tool.  It was so effective, that many teachers across the United States implemented his system.   2022-22-2 (Book ) image
2204 2022-23-1 Mug Black Student Union 50 year anniversary mug.  The front of the mug contains imagery of a human side profile.  Also included is a large written "50" on the front of the mug.  The "50" is composed of the faces of many important black people in history.  Included in the compilation are Martin Luther King Jr., Barack Obama, Rosa Parks, and many more.  The logo of the Black Student Union can be found on the back, along with the University of Northern Iowa logo.  The Black Student Union originally formed in October 1972 making 2022 the 50th anniversary.  The Union was formed in order to make campus a more welcoming and inclusive space for students of color.   2022-23-1 (Mug) image
2205 2022-23-2 Shirt Black Student Union 50 year anniversary T-Shirt.  The front of the shirt includes the following writing, "Celebrating 50 years of BSU."  The word "50" is yellow in color.  The acronym "BCU" is three different colors and is as follows: B - Red, S - Green, U - Yellow.  The logo of the black student union can be found on the back, along with the University of Northern Iowa logo.  The black student union originally formed in October 1972 making 2022 the 50th anniversary.  The union was formed in order to make campus a more welcoming and inclusive space for students of color.   2022-23-2 (Shirt) image
2206 2022-23-3 Booklet Black Student Union 50 year anniversary booklet.  Created by Eboni Springfield, former BSU chair of Public Relations.  The booklet is made up of a large compliation of pictures of black students at the University of Northern Iowa.  Each page includes pictures and a statement to go along with said pictures.  For example, one page includes the following, "I lift up my head because I am proud of the skin I'm in."  The black student union originally formed in October 1972 making 2022 the 50th anniversary.  The union was formed in order to make campus a more welcoming and inclusive space for students of color.   2022-23-3 (Booklet) image
2207 2022-25-4 Plaque Black metal plaque - UNI Center for Metal Casting.  On the plaque, in embossed writing, "Casting the Future of Industry, First Iron Poured - April 30, 1991."  Also embossed on the plaque is a person who is performing some metal casting.  The UNI MCC was first created in 1989 and was housed in the Industrial Technology building on UNI's campus.  The back of the plaque is lined with felt.   2022-25-4 (Plaque) image
2208 2022-25-5 Plate Black etched plate with six gold llamas.  The plate was give to President Robert Koob, the eight president of the University of Northern Iowa.  The gift was given to Koob from the University of Tarapacá, a university in Arica, Chile.  On the plate it states in Spanish, "En reconocimiento a la fructifera colaboración interinstitucional."  This is translated to, "In recognition of the fruitful interinstitutional collaboration."  It also states on the plate that the collaboration took place in September of 1998.  Six gold llamas can also be found on the front of the plate.  The plate itself has a splattered texture on the front while smooth on the back.   2022-25-5 (Plate) image
2209 2022-25-6 Glass Drinking Glass - UNI Army ROTC.  White print can be found on the glass.  A panther, the University of Northern Iowa's mascot, can be found on the middle of the glass.  Above and below the panther are words that state, "UNI Army ROTC."   2022-25-6 (Glass) image
2210 2022-25-7 Medallion Bronze Medallion - 75th Anniversary of Army ROTC.  The Department of Military Science at the University of Northern Iowa dates back to 1891.  The ROTC program was created in 1916.  At the time, male students took military training instead of physical education.  This was due to the American involvement in World War 1 in 1917.  The 75th anniversary of the ROTC program took place in 1991.  The medallion itself is embossed with writing regarding the 75th anniversary.  Embossed stars can also be found following the border of the medallion.   2022-25-7 (Medallion ) image
2211 2022-25-8 Medallion Bronze Medallion - Centennial of Iowa Academy of Science.  On the front of the medallion, embossed writing states, "Iowa Academy of Science Founded 1875."  On the back, also in embossed writing, it is stated, "1975 Centennial."  The Iowa Academy of Science has an annual meeting every year (in April) where over 100 Iowa-based speakers give science presentations.   2022-25-8 (Medallion ) image
2212 2022-25-9 Wooden Plaque Wooden Plaque - John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is located in Washington, D.C.  The center holds over 2,000 performing arts shows and events each year.  The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival is a national theater program inviting students from all across the nation.  In January and February, eight regional festivals take place and showcase regional productions.  In January 2003 (21st-26th), the University of Northern took part in one of these festivals and received a contribution plaque.  The plaque features two embossed medallions - one is the side profile of John F. Kennedy and the other is of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.   2022-25-9 (Wooden Plaque) image
2213 2022-25-10 Paperweight Missouri Valley Conference Desktop Decoration - Paperweight.  The object is completely clear and rectangular (3D) in shape.  Within the object is white writing stating, "The Valley, Missouri Valley Conference."  Lower on the object is more writing stating, "2008 March Madness."  Also found in white ink is a 3D basketball.  The University of Northern Iowa is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference and competes during March Madness.  March Madness is a term coined to describe the time of year when many collegiate basketball tournaments take place.   2022-25-10 (Paperweight ) image
2214 2022-25-11 Plaque Color photo of 2005 UNI football team mounted on a plaque.  The photo was taken in Chattanooga, Tennessee in Finley Stadium at Davenport Field.  The football team (and coaches) are sitting in bleachers with stern expressions on their faces.  Layered behind the first photo is a photograph of a football field - yard lines included.  Writing on the plaque states, "University of Northern Iowa NCAA I-AA National Championship Chattanooga, Tennessee."  The 2005 NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship Game was a postseason game played between the Northern Iowa Panthers and the Appalachian State Mountaineers.  The game took place on December 16th, 2005 with the Mountaineers winning 21-16.   2022-25-11 (Plaque) image
2215 2022-25-16 Plaque Wooden plaque - Iowa Academy of Science.  The Iowa Academy of Science is a scientific association in Iowa founded in 1875.  The University of Northern Iowa became a member of this association in 1967.  On the plaque it states, "Cooperating in furthering scientific research, education in the sciences, and recognition of excellence in both endeavors."  Also on the plaque is a gold medallion with the Iowa Academy of Science logo.   2022-25-16 (Plaque ) image
2216 2022-25-17 Banner Red silk banner with yellow tassels.  Coop between the University of Northern Iowa and the City College of Dongguan University of Technology (April 2009).   The City College of Dongguan University of Technology is an established institution that focuses on management and engineering.  This college is located in Dongguan, China.  The two institutions established an exchange student program for graduate and undergraduate students that lasted for five years (beginning in 2009).  At the time, the current president of UNI was Benjamin J. 2217 2022-25-19 Box A. Red wood box containing the three treasures of Nanyang.  The box contains pokerwork chopsticks, Dunshan Jade, and "Chu Shi Biao."  The interior of the box is a bright orange felt. The University of Northern Iowa president Benjamin J. Allen and Dean Farzad Moussavi visited Shanghai Dianji University.  After visiting, the president of Shanghai Dianji University, Xia Jian Guo gave Allen this gift. B. Book. Chu Shi Biao is a book created by Zhuge Liang.  Zhuge Liange was the Imperial Chancellor of the state of Shu during the Three Kingdoms period of China. C. Nanyang pyrograph chopsticks. Pyrography is an art technique that consists of burning a design on the surface of an object with a heated metallic point. D.  Three pieces of Dushan Jade.  Two of the objects are spheres and one is a bracelet. Dushan Jade is a classic Chinese "jade," and highly valued in Chinese culture.  Jade bracelets, specifically, are worn by older Chinese women for positive energy and protection from evil spirits.  It is common in Chinese culture for mothers to gift jade to their daughters. E. Certificate. Gem and Jade Identification Certificate.  A gem and jade identification certificate is a document issued by a licensed gemological laboratory. 2218 2022-25-20A Opera Mask Chinese Opera Mask.  The mask is enclosed in a wooden frame and glass in order to protect the object.  The mask depicts Sun Shangxiang.  Sun Shangxiang was the daughter of a Chinese warlord, Sun Jian.  She is often depicted as a tomboy as she received extensive martial arts training and her maidservants all wielded weapons, which was strange for her time.  Her name, written in Chinese, can be found next to the mask itself.  The mask was given to the University of Northern Iowa as a gift from Shanghai Dianji University.  2022-25-20A (Opera Mask) image
2219 2022-25-20B Book This book is a detailed book describing Shanghai Dianji University.  Shanghai Dianji University is located in Shanghai, China and was founded in 1953.  The book goes in depth about the research that has been conducted at the university and the research programs, across the world, that Shanghai Dianji University had cooperative education with.  The University of Northern Iowa and Shanghai Dianji University have collaborated many times in the past.

2221 2022-25-20D Book Booklet that talks about the Qingdao Great Han Puppet Culture Broadcasting Company.  The book goes in depth about the history of the company and those who started it.  There is also much information about the puppets the company creates.  
2222 2022-25-21A Book Tittot is a glass making company created by Wang Yung-shan and a group of glass-art enthusiasts.  "Tittot" is homophonic to the Chinese word "crystal-clear."  Their website states, "Every piece of creation is ancient-modern blended, unique, contemporary but still with the traditional strength."  The book itself is comprised of many of their 13th anniversary creations.  Many of the colorful pieces depict images of dragons or birds.   2022-25-21A (Book) image
2223 2022-25-22 Box White box containing gift given to the University of Northern Iowa President William N. Ruud by Shanghai Dianji University.  UNI and Shanghai Dianji University have had cooperative education many times in the past. A. This object is a silk scarf. The silk scarf itself is decorated with many depictions of different animals. B. This object is a silk tie. The silk tie itself is decorated with many depictions of elephants. C. This object is a book. The book itself is an instruction booklet on how to wear/tie silk ties and silk scarfs.  The book also has an introductory portion talking about the company who created the silk tie and scarf that were also included in the gift.  
2224 2022-25-23 Opera Mask Chinese Opera Mask.  The mask is enclosed in a wooden frame and glass in order to protect the object.  The mask was given to the University of Northern Iowa as a gift from Shanghai Dianji University.  On the back of the frame, there is a sticker that states, "Princess Yang.  In Flower's Pavilion Princess Yang is the beloved imperial concubine of the emperor LiLongji and one of the four greatest beauties in Chinese ancient times.  Her pet name is Yuhuan, Taoist name is Taizhen.  She came from Yondong of Boxhou where is Yangji in Shan Xi Province now.  She's excellent in singing and dancing.  Furthermore, her wisdom and good-looking was loved deeply by XuanZong since her entering the Palace.  The character should be dressed up as huadan (the vivacious or dissolute women)."   2022-25-23 (Opera Mask) image

2235 2022-28 Belt Buckle ISTC belt buckle from the 1950's.  Slightly tarnished on back and front.  Front of the buckle has the letters, "I.S.T.C." embossed.  Was originally purchased at a bookstore sometime between 1948-1950.  The belt (not included) was leather in material and would be threaded through one end of the buckle.  The other end had snaps of some sort for wearing.  Was worn with skirts and slacks that had belt loops.  The acrynonym "I.S.T.C" stands for "Iowa State Teachers College."  The owner of the buckle originally purchased the buckle while attending the Iowa State Teachers College but states that she continued to wear it after graduating in 1952.   2022-28 (Belt Buckle) image
2236 2022-30-1 Pom Metallic gold and purple pom pom.  The front of the handle, in purple writing, states, "UNI, University of Northern Iowa.  Alumni Association and Foundation."  The back of the handle, also in purple writing, states, "Our Tomorrow, The Campaign for UNI."  Our Tomorrow is a campaign for the University of Northern Iowa.  The alumni association states, "The Campaign for UNI is UNI's boldest and most ambitious fundraising campaign to support the people, programs, and spaces that set UNI apart."  
2237 2022-30-2 Pom Metallic gold and purple pom pom.  The front of the handle, in purple writing, states, "UNI, University of Northern Iowa.  Alumni Association and Foundation."  The back of the handle, also in purple writing, states, "Our Tomorrow, The Campaign for UNI."  Our Tomorrow is a campaign for the University of Northern Iowa.  The alumni association states, "The Campaign for UNI is UNI's boldest and most ambitious fundraising campaign to support the people, programs, and spaces that set UNI apart."  
2238 2023-1-1 TC Mascot Head Mascot-style head of TC Panther, one of the dual mascots of the University of Northern Iowa. The head is made from a sculpted foam material covered in a black, furry fabric and is cat-like with pointed ears, large, sculpted cheek tufts, and an elongated snout. The eyes are plastic insets with yellow irises and round pupils, along the outside edge of each eye are rounded, somewhat triangular, purple accents made from a felt-like fabric. The snout has a purple nose made from a harder foam and an open mouth, revealing four white, pointed teeth (made from the same material as the nose) and a red fabric tongue. There are two pieces of the black, furry fabric coming out from the bottom of the head. There is a circle of black, faux-fur fabric coming out from the bottom of the head, at the back bottom of which is a piece of Velcro. 2241 2023-1-4 Headband Headband for mascot costume of TK Panther, one of the dual mascots of the University of Northern Iowa. The headband is made of three pieces attached together: the band, a bow, and a circular piece on top of the bow. The bow, circular piece, and the outside of the band are made from a purple, felt-like fabric with a yellow trim made from a similar fabric. On the inside of the band is a black, textured fabric. The shoe is made up of a hard foam base with three rounded "toes" at the front, on top of which is another piece of slightly smaller foam in the same shape, cut into which is the general shape of a right foot. There are three straps with plastic buckles and Velcro, used to keep the foot in place while wearing the shoe. There is Velcro completely surrounding the top piece of foam. 2246 2023-1-9 Bodysuit Mascot-style bodysuit of TC Panther, one of the dual mascots of the University of Northern Iowa. The suit is made from a black, faux fur fabric with a black mesh lining on the inside. Foam inserts on the chest, arms, buttocks, thighs, and calves give the impression of muscle. On the back of the suit is a zipper and Velcro, below which is a tail. At the end of each arm there are gloves which are attached on the top but not underneath in order to allow for hands to be accessible. At the bottom of the legs are thick elastic straps meant to go under the foot and keep the suit in place.
2247 2023-1-10 Bodysuit Mascot-style bodysuit of TK Panther, one of the dual mascots of the University of Northern Iowa. The suit is made from a black, faux fur fabric with a black mesh lining on the inside. Foam inserts on the arms, buttocks, thighs, and calves give the impression of muscle, two foam inserts on the chest give the impression of breasts. On the back of the suit is a zipper and Velcro, below which is a tail. At the end of each arm there are gloves which are attached on the top but not underneath in order to allow for hands to be accessible. At the bottom of the legs are thick elastic straps meant to go under the foot and keep the suit in place.
2248 2023-2-1 Button, Homecoming Round button/badge pin from University of Northern Iowa's 2022 Homecoming. Pin has a silver back which curves in slightly, there are two rectangular holes which a safety pin has been put through. The front of the pin is primarily purple with white lettering reading "That '70s Hoco" in a large, stylized font near the center of the circle, and "UNI/University of Northern Iowa" in a smaller, more standard font near the bottom. "That '70s Hoco" is ringed with four different colored outlines, from the closest to the text outwards: dark purple, yellow, light purple, and blue, there are also 6 flowers of varying shapes and sizes filling some of the empty space, they are purple, yellow, blue, and green. The safety pin on the back of the badge is not lined up with the front.
2249 2023-2-2 Button, Homecoming Round button/badge from University of Northern Iowa's 2022 Homecoming. Button has a silver back which curves in slightly, there are two rectangular holes which a safety pin has been put through. The front of the button has a photograph of the Campanile which has been edited to be purple and yellow, on top of this photo there is white text reading "2022 Campaniling" and "UNI/University of Northern Iowa. The word "Campaniling" is written in a stylized font. 2258 2023-12-1 Trophy Peter Melendy Community Builder Award trophy. Base of trophy is a black cube that angles in at the top. Information on the recipient is on the front in gold text. All text is centered. Lines of text say "Peter Melendy," "Community Builder Award," "Presented to," "Herman Casewell Hemenway," Father of Iowa Normal School (UNI)," "Student Benefactor," "and Public Servant," "2015," "Cedar Falls Community Foundation" (only this last line is in italics). The trophy is in the shape of the top of a lamp post (the tip of the pole and the light fixture). It is clear and made up of approximately 1-1.5 cm wide panes of glass. The entire trophy is very heavy. The right side of the black base has a small (3 cm wide) mark, appearing to be a sticky residue. No other foreign markings on the trophy. Herman Casewell Hemenway, the recipient of this award, moved to Iowa from previous homes in New York and Illinois in 1860, then served in the Civil War with the Co. C, 27th Iowa Infantry. He moved to Cedar Falls after the end of the war. Hemenway served in the State Legislature beginning in 1876 where he helped establish the Normal School in Cedar Falls. Because of his involvement with this legislation, he was dubbed the "Father of the Normal School." Hemenway served on the Board of Trustees of the Normal School until November 1877 when he became a State Senator. Over the course of his life, Hemenway and his wife paid for 14 young women to attend the Normal School who could not have afforded it on their own. Hemenway died in 1922 in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the age of 89. Hemenway received this award for his work in developing the University of Northern Iowa and Cedar Falls as a whole.   2023-12-1 (Trophy) image

Nook in October of 2019. 3A) The box that contains the Chinese Zodiac book of paper-cuts. Paper-cuts are used to tell the history of Chinese culture or just for decoration. Different styles have different symbolism. The box is made of hard cardboard, designed so the top cover folds over the open box, with a magnetic strip on the right side of the box to hold it closed. The top of the box is red with yellow, black, white, and red characters. There is a dark red watermark on the top left side behind the title written in characters. It is translated into English below. The lower right corner has a yellow border of birds and flowers. The lower left side has a multicolored circular depiction of birds and flowers. Below this is the gold Shanghai Dianji University logo and the name next to it (Chinese on top, English below that). The left side of the box is red with yellow characters in the main section. The bottom 1 cm is orange. The top 8 cm are orange as well. It has red (Chinese) and yellow (English) text with the book's title. The right side of the box is plain red that matches the front. The bottom of the box is plain red except for a red box 4 cm in size with red characters inside it. The two other sides of the box are orange and are part of the inside of the box that actually holds the book. When the box is open, the orange inner box is visible, with a gold paper frame inside it that fits snugly around the book. On the left side of the box in the middle is a yellow ribbon that goes horizontally across the box. The book is intended to sit on top of the ribbon so pulling the end of the ribbon helps the book come out of the box. The ribbon sticks out 4 cm from the box's edge when it is closed. There are scuff marks on the outside of the box.
